Mts1200 2013

  1. Not much there to excite me, seems more of the same, looks over substance. I'd be a next generation buyer if they could get some aero dynamics sorted for the rider so that wind noise is not what takes away ride enjoyment. There isn't really a lot that needs getting right to make the MTS a great bike, most of it is just quality conrol and a few missing design functions. In the end we buy these things for the ride not just the looks, if I was going to just park in the garage then perhaps the MTS would be top of the list.

  2. Not sure there are enough reasons to upgrade but probably enough reasons not to buy a 2012 model now when the 2013 is due.

  3. so the sport variant has been dropped in favor of two touring models

  4. There are a few competitors , New KTM looks interesting, new GS , Aprillia , I don't count the Triumph due to weight , but this is a really hot area now. One thing I'm pleased about is I did not opt for the DES , and as tests have shown on the Pig, the Mazochi's are every bit as good as the gold things. My understanding is Ducati was worried about the reliability factor , which once known will make selling a DES model a PITA.

  5. I do think the 2013 model could have a significant effect on the s/h value of 2012 and earlier Ohlins-equipped models.

The Triumph Explorer is a very good bike. Ignore the weight details as the bike rides nothing like it's claimed weight suggests.

  6. I agree the TEX is a great bike, although the specs say a heavy bike, it doesn't feel that heavy.

The only things that p*ssed me off about it were a really crap screen and a seat that was an instrument of torture, and finally it handled well enough, but not Ducati well enough!

I'm also glad I chose a non-ohlins specced bike, having ridden both with and without, can't honestly tell any difference between the 2 models, the only obvious is the conveniance factor of not having to twiddle the preload knob!

  7. Andrea Forni Interview | Ash On Bikes

    Read the last paragraph!!!

There seems to have been an unusual number of cylinder head failures, can you tell us anything about this?
"Yes, there have been some problems with coolant escaping into the lubricating oil. This was caused by an unexpected internal corrosion problem caused by glycol-based anti-freeze. We have changed the anti-freeze specification to a non-glycol one and this has cured the problem. We now recommend a non-glycol anti-freeze for all existing Testastretta engines."

  8. There is a new KTM 1190, it is a total MTS rip off

  9. Thanks very interesting (if a bit too long). I noted that the screen is quite different and maybe the cure to the turbulence some suffer with. The indictor/multi switch has also changed. I hope thats not a sign that the present one won't last!

  10. Do you believe all the colourful powerpoint presentations you see? It's an incremental improvement. The original 1200 beat all competition and for me, has been a joy to ride all over Europe. Would I like the latest version? Yes but can't justify the change.

    Don't forget the road test conclusion;
There's also the fact that the first Multistrada rocked us all with its brilliance, yet the new one is merely incrementally better. But it's better in almost all the places where owners have asked for it to be, and nothing that made the first one probably the best motorcycle in the world has changed or diminished. Which means it's still the best motorcycle in the world.

  11. It is pretty obvious that they would develop and refine things as kirky says, and i am sure the 2016 update will be even better, i may upgrade to that one !

  12. Well exactly... I think it will be different for every person to see how much the incremental changes have 'improved' the bike, and if those improvements are worth the cost to change. Maybe they will be, maybe they won't.

I imagine many of us will be speaking to our dealers and arranging a good long test ride. Some will trade to the new model, some won't. Personally, I am very interested, however there is a big 'but' there. It is almost certainly going to be 'better', but is really 'better' and is it worth it?

What I think is certain, is that you shouldn't now buy a MY12 unless you get a cracking deal!

  13. Really. They say this sort of stuff every year, I doubt you would even notice any difference in a blind test.
Let's wait for road tests by some reputable people.

And I don't think we know the price of the 2013 model yet?
