  1. Is was you Pete. Remember it clearly. Surely threat of violence, given your earlier description, means expulsion?

  2. My memory evidently differs from yours.

Whatever somebody has said, if they withdraw it, apologise, and promise not to repeat it, that would surely be reasonable. If they repeat whatever it was, refuse to apologise, and insist on carrying on - abusing the mod in the process - that would surely point towards exclusion.

Online threats of extreme violence made from behind a cloak of anonymity on Twitter etc are particularly objectionable. People have gone to prison for this.

Often wrongly imho. Some deranged idiot with balls of steel online, and balls of sand offline, isnt really the same as someone having a glass shoved in their face.

  6. True, it's not the same. Threats of violence are not the same as actually carrying out violent attacks.

But if someone who has publicly made some innocuous comment or proposal is deluged with lurid and intimidatory threats of murder, rape, mutilation, etc against them and their families, this should not be allowed to pass without action. Not in a civilised country, anyway.
