  4. if you want knowledge, go pay a load more but go to a specialist hardware type place. Not many around due to B&Q et al putting them out of business

  5. Thankfully I'm not manufacturing parts for the new version of the Space Shuttle, so I'm sure they'll be fine for the level of accuracy I need them for (+\- 0.5mm). The specs are +\- 0.1mm, I think, so even if the tolerances are out by 500% they'll still be good enough for my purposes.

  8. just remember,, thumb is 1.5 inch, elbow to finger tip 18 inch and one step is 3ft (or 1 meter for our younger readers )...:)

  17. They didn't close because of evil capitalism or "THE TORIES", they closed because consumers, who had the choice, decided not to use them. Politics is irrelevant. Blame your fellow shoppers. And the internet.

  19. I doubt they'd know what those sort of calipers are either.

    At the risk of sounding like a celeb on one of those Saturday night Channel 4 list programs where someone from a boy band who is only about 23 pretends to remember things from about a decade before he was born, I am going to say that when I was growing up in the 70s you'd regularly see kids wearing them, but not anymore.
