Well it finally arrived. She was more mint than I expected. Although there was a stone chip in one head light, a bit of a swine hund but not the end of the world to sort out. Happy with it for the price I paid. beautiful bike.
If it's a plastic lens, try Xerapol (ebay) to polish it out. If glass, Autoglass can probably improve it for a lot less than a new unit. If that's the only fault then you're doing well. Nice bike; happy riding!!
onI'm glad I joined the forum, following a list of models from Exige and a bit of research, it seemed like it was the one I was after. I noticed what people say, they don't like going slow. As soon as I pulled away, it almost felt a little bit too nimble at low speed, kind of a bit wobbly, have not felt that on any bike before and I've been on some bikes that have quick steering. Once it was going a bit faster it did handle well, how a bike set up to ride fast should. I also noticed how you are perched up on it. I wonder what the C of G is like compared to some fast bikes. I did wind it up a bit and it felt really nice but I did not ride it hard enough to find out what it was about. I wanted to make sure it worked, running temps etc... and not throw it down the road. The power was a bit unusual, it does not feel as fast as my old R1 which made similar power. It's definitely got grunt and goes when you wind it on but almost seems a little bit lazy somehow, I guess that's the torque. It will lift the wheel easy (not deliberate) and it will wheel spin a cold tyre quite easy, which to be fair most 1000cc in line fours will do. I am looking forward to riding it more, it will take a bit of getting used to. I hope I can behave myself because it is not a bike for cruising on.
Look for another headlight with a damaged lens on the other side. You can then cut the good one off and replace it for the busted one.
The power delivery on big Ducati's is totally different from the Jap multi's,what seems like a lazy and laid back delivery is VERY deceptive,i always remember the first time I rode my 999S ,thinking to myself ''whats all the fuss about''...then looking down at the speedo and gulping when I saw 128mph on the digi display when I thought I was doing about 80ish. They deffo feel more at home at highish speeds than round town, I've known a couple of my mates who dismissed Ducati's as being like tractors just because they didn't take the time to get out on the open road on test rides...look what theyre missing!...nice bike BTW.
Mate of mine rode my old 916 and didn't like it at all being a jap 4 and 2 stroke motorcross man. He then had a proper go and went out and bought a lovely 748sps which in turn led to his own 916. That 998 is lovely good luck with it, I'd like one just like that to keep for ever
I might have a broken 748 headlight with a good side if you want it. Not sure if it made the cut in garage clear out but I'll check if you like. Can't remember which side is ok.
Oh and of course congrats on the bike. Looks like the ones we all picture when someone says their bike Is mint
Joe, I'd be interested if it's free to a good a home? ha ha. I assume they are sealed and a bit of a pig to get off and put back on. I tried to do a sealed one on an R1 once, what a pain in the butt, I think I threw the towel in that time. I am after the (Uk) near side one - I think mine are glass but will have to check. I was probably going to buy a complete set in the new year eventually.
Just curious what dash it that in your avatar? Aim, Translogic, Magneti... I would like to keep miy bike stock, but I would also like some more trustworthy instruments. I will keep all the stock bits in a box some where
