999 Well That Was A Good Start....not !!

  1. Well after posting nice shiny pics of my new 999s I thought today would be the first time to take her out for a good blast, she was lovely and clean the weather was perfect so I put on the leathers and away we went, everything spot on at first then came across the roundabout where the A420 meets the A46 coming out of Bath, quite busy so had to make a quick getaway to get across, as I let the clutch out to pull away I got a bit of a lurch forward and a strange sort of scraping/grinding noise.
Carried on for a few miles then came into Ford village I dropped a gear to slow down coming down the hill and I thought I had got a false neutral knocked it down again and let the clutch lever out and nothing at all, freewheeled for a bit then luckily there was a layby on the other side of the road. tried various things but as this is my first Ducati with a dry clutch my knowledge is very limited.
when you start the bike put it into 1st let the clutch out ....nothing !!. when the bike is stationary in neutral the clutch rattles when I pull the clutch in it goes quiet normally but not now it just sounds as noisy as usual.
no phone signal at all as one of the locals informed me so had to use the local pubs phone to call the AA.

now as I am a newbie to the earlier Ducatis having only owned a panigale and my current Multistrada which are completely different animals, can someone tell me what could be the cause of this. its only the 3rd time ive been on it and one of them was to pick it up !! :Arghh:

  2. Does it have a stock or slipper clutch?

EDIT: Saw the other thread. If it's a DP slipper the spider spring may have broken.

  3. I've just had a bike thru the workshop with almost exactly the same issues. Clutch drum nut had come undone to a point that it was stopping the pressure plate short of clamping the pack.
Easy check and fix, but you'll need a holding tool....

  5. Hi Deaks thanks for the offer but my knowledge of dry clutches is virtually non existent :Shamefullyembarrased:, I have booked it into Louigi moto to let them have a look and sort it out.
At least I still have the Multi to use till its sorted.
