  2. Very interesting, this was before carl had won any of his wsb titles,I was at at Donnington in 1993 when carl had a wild card in the gp gutted when he ran out of fuel and missed a podium finish maybe Barry had a hand in getting him that ride, the year after he had the chance of another wild card at Donnington and I seem to remember he couldn’t race because of a hand injury but there was talk of it being because the bike was crap plus he was fighting for the wsb crown that year so maybe he didn’t want to risk it. Real shame there wasn’t any decent rides for the brits then I’m sure he would have done well, although he didn’t do too badly in wsb!

  3. If only Carl was given the full chance he deserved in 500's. Shame that all the teams of any importance were only interested in Americans, Spaniards, and Aussies.

  4. Carl could never take enough backing/sponsorship into GP to get a decent ride. Barry was right : better off not doing it at all than just being there to make up the numbers with an uncompetitive team. Carl went down in history as the only person ever to win four WSB titles : no-one would remember him if he'd been "also ran" in GP.
