899 Heavy Clutch Fix??

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by James85, Oct 20, 2015.

  1. Having small hands and slipping the clutch in the morning commute results in sore, tired fingers/hands when I get to work. I've been looking into different clutch slave cylinder options.
Anyone with any feedback? What have you fitted and did it make much of a difference in weight?

  2. 899 has the lightest clutch of any bike I've ridden to the point where it almost feels lacking in feel as its so light. Adding a Oberon clutch slave might help a tiny bit , but I think it might be a case of Rule #5.

  3. Maybe it's just the fact I feel the need to slip the clutch in slow moving traffic so much then. My zx6r was happier at slower speeds

  4. I fitted an Oberon to my 848 and it made a HUGE difference, that thing was a joke the clutch was so heavy. Someone on here though has just fitted one and said it doesn't make 'much' difference so I too am a little unsure. All I would say is that if u fit it and it doesn't improve things u can sell them on for really good money

  5. The 848 I had was a heavy clutch and a pig at low speeds. The 899 is almost Japanese smooth. I think a Oberon would be a waste of cash on a 899. Joking apart maybe try some exercise to strengthen your grip it may have more benefit.

  6. the answer is masturbation. With your left hand of course. :Arghh:

  8. The clutch on the panigale is the lightest Ducati clutch I've ever come across. Ride a 1098 for a week then get back on the Panigale, your hands and fingers will feel like they're in heaven!. Seriously though any Ducati will never be as happy at low speeds as your old ZX6R and you do have to keep dipping the clutch in traffic etc because of the tall geared torquey nature of the v twin. I too seem to remember someone on here saying the slave cylinder didn't really make much difference on a panigale.

  9. Also worth noting that it looks like u have to use the plastic insert from the standard clutch in the Oberon, where as for the 848 it was a whole new unit. It may be lighter but I don't think it will stop issues with chain crud getting in an making it feel graunchy

  10. The 899 is my frst Ducati and it is no where near as light as any Japanse clutch ive ever used. Once ive been commuting through traffic within 15 mins or so my wrist and hands do ache. So Any proper advice from anyone who has a real solution to help with this would be greatly appreciated and not the usual man up or masterbation tripe that folk always come out with!

  11. I honestly don't think the clutch is heavy on my 899.

Yeah it's a bit of a b*astard round town, but that's more the character of the engine than anything.

I had a 600rr before and I can't say I got on it and went, f*ck this is heavy.

The clutch on the father in laws 14 plate blade is heavier.

  12. I see your still happy to listen to other people's opinions as long as they are the same as your own! ;)

  13. try changing your gearing instead by losing a tooth on your front sprocket. You won't need to clutch it so much round town plus you'll get a little more zip.

  17. I've got Oberon fitted and I would say it's slightly better than standard and looks better too
