What If I Crash?

  1. Try not to go on your own but if you have to best to trailer or van it if you can, you'll be knackered after the days track riding plus you will be amazed what condition you can driving back in but riding one armed is much harder, Bike guys generally help out if they can so get chatty with the guys in your garage when at the track, worst case they usually load up for you and leave it at the track for you to pick up later, plenty of track day forums out there keep an eye out for guys attending the same day as you, anyway try and stay on cause it hurts falling off both body and wallet, :)

  2. Thinking twice about taking my SF to Llandow next year. Should I be going expecting a totalled bike and a broken arm?

  3. It can happen but just as possible on the road

  4. Do you expect to return from a ride with a broken arm and twisted bike?

Far more dangerous on the road than track

And you'll be lucky to get out of third at that go cart track ;)

  5. I know but they won't throw me out for being a noisy git.

  6. GO NORTH........Anglesey

  7. Yep Anglesey is more like it.. noise limits?
Actually I see Llandow is 105 db. Should be OK. Any reliable way I can check my noise levels beforehand?
I'm going to Llandow because its a southwestbikers track day. Not too many people - I'll know most of them from ride outs, not expensive and I thought it would do to learn the ropes for my first one. Not a wildly exciting looking layout though I must admit.

  8. nominal 105dB, although they dont test unless you are an f1 car of old.

  9. if you do go to anglesey i will drag you around for a session

  10. Believe it or not there's a db meter App you can get for the I phone and it's reasonably accurate.

  11. Cheers. Might take you up on that.
Reading the what track bike thread I'm thinking I might be better buying a dedicated track bike. Be a Jap four because of cost.
    Something like this:
Track bike R1 | United Kingdom | Gumtree
Seem to be a few cheap K1/2/3 Gixer 750s about as well.

  12. If you are on FB there are a fair few bikes going up for sale on groups:
Track Bike Riders And Racers UK
    Trackday Riders
Loads of slightly used tires etc too.

  13. Get hooked first then buy a bike imho

Did one couple years ago and at £60 it was great value. Then the following year prices hiked to £95 then pver £100. Unless I lived 5 miles away I'd drive the distance to anglesey and ride a proper track for the same money

  14. I ride to trackdays and i'm off to mallory this friday , really looking forward to it , although i am looking to get a dedicated track bike ,but until that bike comes i take my time on track and ride well with in my limits , no prizes for the fastest time :upyeah:

  15. I've been told of a Gixer K5 track bike up for grabs for a good price. Its track-ready and I know the mechanic who services it because I take bikes to him as well, so I have a good idea of its history and condition. For the right money I'd be tempted to buy it anyway.
Its a tough and novice-friendly litre bike and in the unlikely event I thought track riding wasn't for me I wouldn't have any trouble selling it again and I doubt I'd lose much money. In fact if the price is right it would be worth keeping it and returning it to road use or using it as a project.

  16. Moto forum is the best site for race and track bikes for sale

  17. I still have wheels, wets, spares. Tank, fairings for one of those, not to mention engine and frame ;)

  18. Back in the 70s I rode my 750 bevel to Zolder in Belgium, raced in the Dutch Ducati club races, and rode home again - two successive years. Later I rode my Pantah to Paris, did a track day at the Circuit Carole with the French club, then headed off for Spain.

A track day at Brands or Snetterton - pshaw!

  19. If you have never done a track day, you can always go to one of the race schools for a day and hire one of their bikes. Then you'll feel more informed/more confident when you take your own bike on track. The Ducati Riding Experience isn't bad either, although not really enough laps.
    Just an idea.
