1200 DVT Fuel Cap - Aftermarket, Suspension, Tyres

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Wes McDonald, Oct 24, 2015.

  1. Good morning,

    I own a DVT and find it a bit annoying to have to dig for my key when fuelling. I am not keen too have a Ducati keyless cap and almost always change the locking caps on all my bikes. So, a couple of questions for the knowledgable on here;

Does an aftermarket cap for a pre-2015 cap fit a post-2015 bike?

If not, has anyone run across an aftermarket cap for a post-2015 bike? I am looking for red but function is more important. LighTech caps have worked well for me.

As far as other issues with the bike, I have had the fuel sensor changed and so far it is doing well. I got 6250 off of the OEM tyres and can't say a bad word about them however I have gone back to my favourites, PR4's.

The bike has been to France, Germany, Austria, Italy and back, loaded up with me, the better-half and all her stuff. It handled it all without much drama however the centre-stand IS what hits the ground first loaded as above. I have since had a higher-rated spring installed but have not repeated the load condition so I can't speak to ground clearance now however MCT have done a great job of smoothing-out the bumps a bit and the bike feels a bit more willing to tip-in. Hopefully this will have helped the dipped beams from aiming at on-coming traffic's eyes as well. I will come back with some feedback on clearance and lighting when I load her up again, likely in the spring. Judging from the bike sitting a little higher I suspect it has helped with both issues.

I could waffle-on about Termi pipe, windscreen, pegs, Ducati tank bag and other stuff however it seems to have pretty much all been written in other posts and mostly down to personal preference.

Thanks in advance for any help with the fuel cap info above!

  2. Hi Wes,
I got a 2014 MS Ducabike cap from Conquest Carbon and it fits a treat on the DVT.
    Cheers,
    Alex

  3. Not sure what you dislike about the Ducati electronic cap. I have been using the same one since 2011, on two bikes and 37,000 miles so far - it has been perfect. I cannot fault it. Easy to use and totally reliable.

  4. I have a spare key cut, that I keep easy accessible for fuel, top box and panniers etc. with the added safety of not having to worry about remote key left anywhere to fall out and lose it
I went for PR4's after Oem's more than happy with them.
I assume you did not get the Sky Hook as that would have solved all your suspension troubles with adjustment on dash?

  5. 6250 miles on the scorps, wow mine have just bit the dust at 3600, mostly one up. Sure yours is not the total between the front and rear lol:Woot:

  6. Hey,

    Thanks for the response.

I am pleased to hear you are having good luck with the PR4's. My previous "touring" bike was a K1300S and the tyres worked great on her. I did lots of miles and never so much as an issue. (I thought I was going to miss her a lot but the MS has really been a good choice.

In regard to the Skyhook, yes, I have it but the Mrs and I aren't exactly svelte and she has a habit of carrying what she don't need. :) In any event, with all the adjustments maxed-out (when set on Sport, 2 persons, and luggage, it defaults to max preload) it was still needing some help. I can't comment on whether or not the higher NM shock has solved the issue yet but I will when I load her up.

On an aside, my local dealer stated that there is no adjustment on the LED lights for elevation and that they would have to be shimmed-down, something several customers had asked for. For my part, I tried to attack the problem and not the symptom. We will see how successful it has been but with the chicken strips off the new tyre I haven't hit the centre stand yet. :)

I like the idea in regard to the spare key. I have just received one. Still, I like the quick-caps and will probably run that way.

  7. Hey Pete,

It's good to know that they work. I am a little wary of it for probably no good reason. The dealer has one and I'll be over there Monday for work on a different bike. I'll check it out then.

    Thanks for the response!

  8. Alex,

Now that is good news as I have done business with them in the past.

    Thanks for the great reply!

  9. Ideally I'd have swapped them before leaving the south of France but they got me home with no problem albeit a bit squared-off. The PR4's were bought with the bike with the intent of sticking them on straight away and while I am glad they are on there now, I am also pleased that I used the Pirelli's.

    Thanks for the reply.

  10. Have the spring swapped out in the rear if yiu need more support. Quite a few did this on the last skyhook and were happy with the results

  11. Just had it done bud. I can't speak for it solving all the problems of the bike but so far, so good. Please a few other have done the same with good results.

    Thanks for the reply!

  12. You say no elevation on LED, have you adjusted it to its max, and still it is too high? or you saying it cannot be adjusted?, I had mine adjusted so I know it can be

  13. Only can write what I was told, that the LED's had to be shimmed and there was no "traditional" screw or whatever to adjust them down. In any event, hopefully it's resolved.

    Thanks,

    Wes

  14. I am sure some others will comment, there is a post somewhere about headlight adjustment on DVT, my Dealer adjusted mine, assuming we are not getting our wires crossed

  15. Any info would be appreciated.

You know, other than the above, I really do like the bike. A lot! I bought it to transit down to the south of France, Spain, ect. On the way I didn't want to be walking like John Wayne when I stopped for fuel (and it has long legs, easily getting 130mi and some if you are brave) and I wanted something that would do well in the twisty bits.

Now I have written all the nice things about it, it will probably swallow it's ass! :)

    Thanks!

    Wes

  16. What's the rating of the std DVT Spring and what upgrade did you fit, I uprated my skyhook and thinking about putting a stronger Spring on my std DVT. Do Ducati do an uprated Spring for the DVT or did you go elsewhere.

  17. Any tips on fitting please Pete1050? Ta

  19. Had the leccy cap on since 2010/26k miles and yesterday it wouldn't let me in - took 5 power ups/down to eventually open.

Did the same last summer in the middle of Luxembourg on a Sunday afternoon. Took 20 minutes that time.

Pretty sure it is a signal issue rather than a mechanical (pin stuck) one?

Must confess to getting a bit nervous about it and may just go with a keyless, aftermarket, non-locking type?
