999 999 Reliability Checks And Things To Look Out For

  1. Are these plugs compatible with the 999?

    Thanks and apologies for hijack.

  2. They grew on a lot of people in time, including me, now I have 3. And they weren't the sales flop people say, actually outselling the 916's 1st year sales. They are stunning in race spec too!

  5. R
R1throttle is hardly a winter job.
Doesn't take long to do at all, minutes rather than hours...

  6. Thanks for that, ordered on ebay for delivery Tuesday. Look like the same ones on the 748

  7. See, the 999 is that good, no one mentioned the chick, or said 'is there a bike in that photo' like they would normally. Proving point of how stunning a bike the 999 is ;)

  14. I know, but I have a list... New grips and throttle, new discs and pads, oil and filter change.. Gives me something to tinker with..

  15. Just an update on today's fiddling. Disregard my observations on the ease of turn in. I checked the tyre pressures today, they were only 25F and 30R! Hardly surprising the bike felt a bit slow on the direction change.

  18. 180/60 is your answer.

Department of Suspension 999 suspension set up guide is a great starting point. Anyone chimes in otherwise is a dick, official.

    Great great bikes.

Agree with FE re Rizoma unless you like the chintzy christmas tree look.

  19. I doubt any mirror would save you from an unmarked X5 but here is a link to the Oberon Streetfighter mirror I have on my 999:
    Oberon Streetfighter Bar End Mirrors
It replaces your existing bar-end and can be configured in various ways and comes in two sizes.
I went for the smaller 60mm size in black for maximum discretion.
It does the job of filling in the blind-spot perfectly but, configured to sit over your right hand, is small and neat enough to have little or no adverse effect on the stunning lines of the 999.
    Highly recommended.
When I ordered my cheap Chinese levers, I thought I was ordering shorties and was quite disappointed when they arrived. However, I wasn't disappointed for long as they turned out to be absolutely perfect.
Although they are not shorties, they are shorter than the original Brembos and have a beautifully executed dog-leg shape that not only looks perfect for the bike but works perfectly too.
I have them in black with the little adjuster lever in red - so much classier than the ungainly silver oem levers.
To me they seem beautifully made (cnc machined and then anodised) and there was absolutely no adjustment necessary on the master-cylinder plungers, even though the method of attachment to the levers is quite different.
They are a copy of an American design but are so well made that I can't help wondering if they are lifted from the same Chinese production line.
    So again, highly recommended.
