  2. Wetter than usual I guess, but I've still managed to rack up ~5500 miles in the past year... I sometimes find it quite thrilling to ride in the rain... Just a pity that I don't like getting the Monster wet. Seriously considering something else for winter/wet weather riding duties...

  5. I had an early (1990) cbr 600 for exactly that, and it was superb - quick enough to be entertaining but without the all or nothing power delivery of modern middle weight bikes (still nearly 100bhp though) steel frame means they survive well if dropped too.
     
  6. Somehow I've managed to clock up 5000 miles this summer, 3k on the Triumph and 2k on the fuglystrada, but I'm buggered if I can work out how, this has to be the worst summer for riding since I first sat on a bike:frown:

    Battery, hopefully, although she has been connected to an Optimate and has been starting fine.

    I ordered her a carbon instrument cover yesterday too. Ungrateful Italian bitch. :rolleyes:


    edit; I bought a webbing harness that straps onto the handlebar grips from Bumpstop (I have a Lider trailer fitted with one of their narrow-channel front wheel holders) Dead handy for fastening the bike down with ratchet straps or camlock straps. No metal or webbing fastenings touch the paintwork.

  12. If you've got it hooked up to an Optimate how can it be the battery?

    This is the 2nd evo I've heard of that has had starting issues, but mine has been 100% reliable.
     
  13. Parabolica, strip your right hand switch gear. I had the same problem on my EVO. Out for a ride, stop for a cuppa, get back on, bike wont start, dead. Dash lit up ok but wont turn over. Now im not in the AA/RAC or what ever, What to do. Dont fancy a 30 mile push. :eek:
    Used the shitty little screw driver form under the seat and found the starter button terminals corroded and water in the bottom of the housing.
    Buggered about with it for ten mins and away we went.
    Now i never wash the bike with lots of water so it must have been rain water ingress and bike only had 1500 miles up at the time.
    Suffice to say Im in Green flag and WD the switch gear once a month. :biggrin:
     
  14. I douse all the switchgear with GT85 once a month, so perhaps that's why mine has been fine.
     
  15. How old was the battery? They can just fail, regardless of being on an optimate or similar. Only needs the residue to drop off one plate and short to the next and that's it! The older the battery, the more likely this is to happen.

  17. That's bloody poor then. They should last longer than a year, or is this just another case of inbuilt life span?
     
  18. Some batteries last years, others don't. I've had a couple die in short order. Just the luck of the draw, I guess.
     
  19. I agree. Lots of reasons why they might not last long.
    Anyway, hope things go smoothly from now onwards.
