Anyone have experience with these lads? When the Mutley came in it had a strange combo of a nearly new Pirelli Scorpion Trail (190-55-17) with a Diablo Rosso II on the front. I've about 500 miles on it since it arrived and the Rosso front is pretty fooked. Its well cupped and making the front a bit strange feeling. T'id be a shame to throw out a nearly new rear though so was thinking of putting a new Scorpion Trail 2 on the front to match? I've had no issues with the rear, seems a very decent tire with plenty of grip too! Just wondering has anyone used these for any lenght, I know they come standard on the new 2015 DVT model, before I go forking out for a new set?
I've done only done a few miles on them but I have the scorpion 2's on my 2010 multi. I thought the original scorps were quite good although squared off within a few hundred miles (no real warning). Got the scorpion 2's on the basis that they made them as an amalgamation of the Angel GT's and the original Scorpions. At the time I was looking at getting Angel GT's but the advertising stated that the scorp2's basically felt the same but got more mileage. I'm already cranking it over to the edge and they feel great.
Cheers JH, have ordered the trail 2 front which as you said is based on the Angel GT so hopefully should be decent, write ups so far seem good, a lot better than the original Trail 1. I'll keep ye posted
had them on a smaller bike pegaso 650 superb. wet or dry. obviously massive difference in power tho. never had an issue on my 60ml twisty often wet commute.
Still was surprised how well the rear Trail 1 hangs on though, its nice to have the option of a little bit of light off roading if the mood takes me, not like you'd be doing a whole lot of it on a 1200 though....:Woot:
In my opinion, for what it's worth, the Scorpion Trail I was not good - glad to replace them with much grippier Michelin Pilot Road 3/4s. But the 2015 Scorpion Trail II seems much better - I've done well over 6,000 miles on them, plenty of grip and still not quite worn out. I may finish them off this month though, in which case not sure whether to go for more Scorpions or PR4s.
So far so good, front trail 2 is excellent, scrubbed to nearly full lean in around 10 miles! I am finding the rear Trail 1 spinning up a fraction on tight dry roads when being aggressive in Sport mode. I can live with that no problem once I have the confidence in the front!
I have just replaced my rear Scorpion Trail 2 with the same at 4500 miles. It had about another 600 miles in it but I'm off on a trip so had no option but to change. Very good tyre, much better than the rear PR4 I was so glad to get rid of on my old Mutley. I feel PR4 is too hard in the centre - never had so many on throttle slips in the dry.
Today I replaced the OEM Scorpion Trail IIs, at 6,800 miles. They were still legal - just - which is pretty good going in my opinion. So I actually got a pair of Michelin Pilot Road 4s, mainly because they are readily available in stock whereas the Scorpions are not.
Yep, the Scorpions are a bit of a rarity in shops, I order my tires online and fit myself so not really an issue. Couldnt go wrong with the PR4s though. I'll be giving the Metz M7RR a whirl next though
Don't think I'll get Scorpions again - the front is smoked after 3.5k - the centres are still ok but the sides are gone. That's not many more miles than I got from supercorsas on my hyper and they were in a different league for grip. May try battlax next.
Had Scorpions on my '13 mutly. Grip wet or dry was superb. Front went really weird shape with wear and the handling also went to pot around 2100 miles. Replaced at 2700 worn out. road 3s or Angel gts a better bet with no less grip and twice the miles while still keeping shape.
If you ride hard dont expect too many miles out of them. Done around 2k on my S1000R and maybe got 6-700 miles max left in them. As an indicator I was getting around 1500 miles out of Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa, a soft tyre. M7rr good tyres , couldnt fault the performance.
Top tips on the tyres. I've been trying to hold out till the end of the season but should have replaced them a good few miles back as the sun keeps shining
