1098r - Conked Out! 749r Didn’t But Looked Like It Would Soon

  1. Dead easy! Just goes in the same place as the oem one. IIRC, I used 2 X m6 X 80 bolts with plenty of nuts & washers to pass through the ECU then into the back of the battery box

  2. No, you're alright...still on!

  3. So I just buy the £17.99 regulator from Amazon and the Triumph leads and swap it out?
Where is the oem one fitted? Is it behind the battery box or somewhere nasty to get at?Sounds simples!
I'll check that the regulator is the problem first obviously.
    Thanks.

  4. Yeh, just like they sorted decent starter cables :D:Bag:

  5. Everything you need to know is in the video. Instead of building a mounting plate I just drilled 2 holes through the battery box plastic and used two bolts of suitable length. You need to remove the heatshield off the back of the battery box to pass the bolts through from the back.

You will need a cable tie to lock the 4 way connector together.

  6. For the money involved, it has to be well worth just giving it a go.
Looks 95% certain the guys have got you sorted. :)
If the bike starts and runs with a freshly charged battery, that probably goes up to 99%. :)

  7. Charged overnight.
    Started fine.
    Here's the numbers:
    Static voltage 12V
    Idle voltage at 1500rpm 13.0V
    4000rpm 13.3V

So, doesn't make the magic 14V.

    Rectifier then?

  8. Looks like it. Might be an idea to do the R/R mod then check the battery.

  9. Had my 999R running today , whilst changing the sim card in the tracker , the voltage when running is exactlt the same as yours 13.3 . I dont have a problem with mine as its always been like that. My static voltage is 12.6 though . Thats just off the dash mind you .

  10. @bettes did you use the FH010BA one in @Nelson 's link?
    E-TING MOSFET REGULATOR RECTIFIER For KAWASAKI ZX-10R NINJA ZX10R ZX1000 04-07: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike

I'm liking the price of that one but it does seem a LOT cheaper than any of the other ones I've seen, such as the FH020AA below:
    SHINDENGEN FH020AA REGULATOR /REPLACES FH012AA VERSION & YAMAHA 1D7-81960-00-00 | eBay

I'd like to fit something that has been tried and tested by somebody else really. The cheap one looks good and I'll use it if it's been fitted by somebody else already with no probs.

    Cheers,
    R

  11. @RickyX , not sure if it was exactly the same but looked like it. :upyeah:

  12. Ordered the one from USA and the Triumph leads. Wasn't keen on the cheapo Chinese copy from amazon - even though it's probably fine.
Thanks to all for great help in this matter!

  13. Update

Got Mosfet R/R yesterday from USA.
    Got Triumph leads.
    Installed today.
    Idle voltage across battery: 14.4V.
    I reckon that's sorted it.

Didn't bother with a mounting plate as I couldn't see how I would get at the mount bolts as the R/R mounting holes mean that you can't access them once in place.
I installed some rivnuts directly into the battery box where the R/R fits so I can remove it without the need to access from behind.

  14. Looking good mate! Don't want to tempt fate or anything but did you remove the battery tray before drilling? It's just that the starter cable is clipped to the tray along the bottom edge just behind it. No need to ask how I found that out. :Banghead:

  15. I spotted the cable when I was doing my investigation on how to best fit the R/R, so I carefully moved it out of the way before I drilled the plastic tray. I did notice some metallic swarf whenI drilled it and thought "oh bugger, hit the cable" but then I realised it was the foils backing on the tray! Phew!

May I enquire as to how you knew??? Lol!

  16. No need! :) I was just very lucky. Missed the cable by 1 or 2 mm. Lesson learned.

  17. Hey - nice clean install bud.... Sorry went all US there for a moment...Wont happen again...:Bag:

  18. Are you still using the original connector for the 3 yellow wires? Just asking as I'm about to do this to the 998 and I've already had to remove the burned stator side connector. Still unsure as to solder and heat shrink the cables or use bullet connectors and heat shrink.

  19. Yes, I used the original connector for the yellow wires. It wasn't showing any signs of overheating and it is a direct plug n' play with the Triumph connecting loom-ette.
