There was a you tube video up earlier showing all the related incidents through to the point of MM falling off but it's disappeared and it's gone from my browsing history It told a story MM had been goading Rossi before hand and showed each incident as it unfolded I think MM became complacent in his moves and caused his own demise Nice bit of racing though Found it I think 6 of one and half a dozen of the other
Honda were keen to interpret from the brake pressure data that the brake lever had been "kicked" yet there is no evidence to that effect and there are certainly other possible explanations. I think @Zhed46 has probably hit the nail on the head.
That's twice I've seen that posted over the last couple of days. The absurdity of that ststement beggars belief.
The whole legal process is a last ditch effort by Rossi to create as much doubt as possible so that the decision on his penalty will be delayed until next season. Lawyers aren't the most active of people.
Why? Footballers do it all the time. I agree that if he had gone down at 150mph then it would be an extremely unlikely explanation but they were only travelling at jogging pace when he hit the deck. I know most of us bikers are of the opinion that racers are cut from a different cloth than namby pamby sneaky football players, and largely that is true, but I am struggling to understand the mechanism of the accident and Marquez taking a dive has to be considered. To shut your eyes to that possibility is to be as blind and unrealistic as all the 46 fanatics who don't think Valentino did anything wrong
A footballer taking a dive is very different to deliberately crashing a motorcycle in an attempt to get an opponent disqualified. If they were one and the same, we'd be seeing instances of both every weekend. Watch any premier league game and you'll see many instances of gamesmanship, feigning injury, diving, intimidation of referees. Apart from the risk of being carded, all of these actions are low risk to the player involved. These are some of the reasons I gave up my season ticket a few years back and now very rarely watch football. As far as I'm aware, I've never seen a rider deliberately crash a motorcycle to have an opponent penalised. I've seen collisions where riders have went down, or ended up in the gravel, but never where I thought it was an attempt to influence officials. It would be a dangerous game with a very very small chance of success. I can't believe it's even being put out there. I don't think anybody has shut their eyes to the possibility of Marquez taking a dive, as you say, everything has been looked at in minute detail, and only on this forum have I seen that statement made, and by the most ardent of Rossi supporters. You may think it's plausible, I think it's ludicrous.
Whatever the outcome of these legal proceedings this title will be forever tainted but the record books will never show it. Yamaha management also appear to have lost control of both their riders who have dragged the sport down to a level where 'win at any cost' and to hell with sportsmanship is now acceptable. Whilst Lorenzo is feeling hard done by and is far from remaining dignified, I personally lay the blame for the escalation of this whole unsavoury debacle at Rossi's door in his desperation for a 10th title. Ultimately, no-one 'wins' now.
So it is possible and ludicrous at the same time ? MM is messing with Rossi, with the motive of hindering Rossi in the championship, then suddenly the tables are turned and Rossi is putting MM in his place. MM sees red, accelerates, swerves right, head buts Rossi and goes down. A low speed incident with little chance of serious injury and every chance of achieving his main objective. What is ludicrous about that ?
If you look carefully at 2.59 seconds it appears MM's front wheel has actually locked up as you can see a spoke just beneath the caliper which appears to be static. To me, This shows Rossi's leg DID lock the front wheel and Rossi's conspiracy theorists (mm chucked it on the floor on purpose lol) are wrong. Thanks for the post Ducbird!
Very quickly, as I'm in the middle of something. 1. Most collisions/contacts happen at a speed and in circumstances where injury is a distinct possibility and that militates against a rider deliberately going to ground. However, in this highly unusual, possibly unique case the riders were travelling at low speed, miles off the racing line in what was a bizarre, almost road rage, type confrontation rather than two racers vying for position. 2. Most rider's overriding consideration when racing is to maintain or improve their position and again, this militates against deliberately going down. However, in this extremely unusual case, Marquez was out of the championship and had even prior to that incident been accused (rightly or wrongly) of deliberately trying to sabotage Rossi's title bid. 3. There is precedent in a Motorsport context, albeit on 4 wheels and a little different, but who could forget Schumacher feigning a lock up and stall which left his car blocking the racing line in the middle of qualifying at Monaco? This was highly dangerous for him, other drivers and potentially also marshals and spectators but it didn't stop him doing it. I don't know what happened and I haven't seen the data and probably couldn't analyse it accurately anyway, but I think denying the possibility of Marquez going to ground on purpose is just a bit naïve.
1. The original post was about shutting eyes to the possibility of a Marquez dive without considering it. My reply was around the issues of studying the facts and making an informed decision on this possibility. I came to the conclusion that it was ludicrous. Does that explain it to you? 2. So did Rossi put Marquez "in his place" or did Marquez "take a dive". Make your mind up ! 3. Again, another blinkered Rossi fan boy statement.
Watch the video ZHED46, watch the spoke beneath the caliper. The bike is still going forward, the spoke is static. He did not bin it on purpose. The wheel has locked up.
I believe in ufo's and that Hitler buggered off to Argentina after the war and had kids but I don't buy MM took a dive I think it is highly likely his brake locked either from contact with VR's leg or bike but I don't think either was intentional.
