Guys, Anyone got a quote lately, before I commit to a new purchase, I am prudently looking for the best insurance deal. I did a search on the site and got some idea. Just wondering if anyone who has purchased past couple of months have got a good deal. I see declaring 20k gets my 7.5k quote from mce down to £369, not necessarily the best. Yes I know we have been here many times, but hey it is a dark November night. I am 50 with full NCB in Hampshire, under £500 and I'm happy. But I don't want to have to pay £2k out of my own pocket if some fecker takes it one dark day. MCE cheapest at £369 online Carol Nash was a no Thanks Nige
A thought. Has anyone insured for £20k and taken gap insurance for 3 years return to invoice for circa £100. That works, or can anyone see a flaw.
Be very careful. When I was looking at quotes myself, I was asked what the full manufacturers retail price was. If I quoted anything other than that as it was a new bike and that's what I paid. The insurer could have refused to pay a penny and voided my insurance.
Well - another 4 this morning Bennets LV BikeSure Devitt None of them will touch anything 20k and a penny. Frustrating to say the least. This may just make me thing twice about the purchase to be honest.
If i were you i wouldnt touch MCE with a barge pole, they are a horrible gang or rats and they are an absolute NIGHTMARE to contact, yet alone deal with. I appreciate they often come out the cheapest but there's a reason for that. Just my 2p's worth, pm me if you want details of my experience(s). I'm currently dealing with them via the insurance ombudsman and a quick google search will tell you im not the only one.
MCE wanted £1500 excess to renew this years policy for my 899! So, I politely declined and went with Motorcycle Direct. I would give Motorcycle Direct or Ducati's own Insurance a go, they were both very competitive.
Ducati's own insurance worked for me, a plus factor was they were happy to do a multi-bike policy as well.
I'm with MCE, my excess is enormous. I use them because I'm young and they are cheap. But have had mixed experiences with their customer services.. ranging from brilliant to literally appalling.
make sue you dont phone their premium line like i did (i believe they have a warning on that voice message that makes you want to rip your own ears off now but be careful anyway) i got stung for over £100 in 5 days, just waiting for them to pick up the phone they made me want to actually go to a bsb meeting, purely to set fire to that big ed creature they have wandering about the place absolute abomination of a company
This is the general gist of days 1-5 Phone MCE Wait for half an hour for someone to answer (every single time, without fail) Someone picks up the phone “Im sorry I cant help you, I’ll pass you onto someone who can help” Click. Phone dead and cut off. And repeat.
Thanks mate, the cutting off was just the start of the problems, sadly. They never once called me back when they said they would (in fact I’ve not had one letter or piece of correspondence since making the claim). I use my bike as a commuter so needed a prompt resolution to my claim which i explained to them otherwise i was unable to get to work and losing money by the day. It took so long i phoned them to cancel my claim and pay for the repairs myself - i then had to pay over £150 to cancel the claim! 3 weeks later i phone them to confirm its all been cancelled but they told me my policy and claim are still pending. They then tried telling me i'd paid to cancel an undeclared claim on the policy (which didn't even exist). You'd think i'd remember that sort of thing from a previous conversation wouldn't you?! I've since vowed to make sure i lose them every bit of business i possibly can when i get asked about bike insurance and as i said i'm still waiting on the outcome form the ombudmsan. (apologies for hijacking your thread Nige, just thought you might like to know who to avoid )
no worries fella, insurance is a minefield and as much as it seems to get repeated on here and any other forum it is one thing that unites us all. Why? Because we have been playing he fecking game for years and its a pissing competition every year or every time you change bikes. OK these companies are out there to make a profit, but its absolutely torturous. In other news, spoke to ducati today and they came back with 649. said I was still unhappy, an said what can I do to bring it down, we had a short conversation and the 'feck all' was the reply. Until I reiterated the fact the the list price was only a grand above the threshold and she said, 'we thought you said £27,095 not 20,795, so the quote is based on the 27k, hopefully I will get something below 500 tomorrow and I will take that. Next year I will have a bike worth less than 20k and I will be back in 350 -450 land without having to try. I am 50 with full NCB sports bikes all my life and every fecking positive box ticked and a tracker fitted etc.......... and breath......
Ducati insurance has come back with £559. I have never paid so much, but there again, I have never spent so much. Odd thing though, Carol Nash rang me out of the blue after turning me down, and admit there is a nice area of the market that they are not covering and are going to look into it for me. So currently £559 with £1000 compulsory and no voluntary with Ducati. Suddenly, CN reckon they will give sub 500 and sub 1k excess a damn good go. I'll let you know how it pans out
Exactly what I found, have four bikes on one policy and most of the others were paranoid when I mentioned Panigale
