Decided to run the bike from full to empty to see how far I can really go betwen fuelling! 5 lPetrol can in tank bag This was on my daily commute, part motorway part backroads, cold wet (read greasy) conditions. I get over 200 miles out of my 1100 before the fuel light comes on - have never run it dry. Will out do a Multi-Strada. I can now do my commute of 156 miles without filling up, so long as it's full at the start. I used to always have to fill up on my way home.
1100evo Monster (13.5l tank), light comes on about 110 - 120miles. Average 50-55mpg. Termi's and Rexxer remap. Oh, and I weigh 75kg inc riding gear.
Hyper 796 2011 42.200 km on the clock. Commute: 75 miles and the lite comes on Mix of commute and highway: 120 miles and the lite comes on. Only highway: 150 miles
The tank itself doesn't actually add a lot of weight, and you don't HAVE to fill it up but it is not much fun riding all day with others or travelling further than 90 miles if you have to stop every hour to fill up a 12.5 litre tank! I don't want a touring bike, I want a fun bike that I can ride for more than an hour at a time if I would like to.
Why? The people who own Hypers love the handling and performance. Fitting the bigger tank has virtually no effect on the bike's handling, even when initially full, but enables you to ride for 200 plus miles stopping when you want too not every 90 miles. Best mod I've made. I don't want a tourer and I have ridden a Multistrada but couldn't wait to get back onto the Hyper.
We have to stop for my mates ktm 990 smt all the time cos that is one thirsty mother!! Plus all the boys want a fag anyway as even having fun it takes well over an hour to use a tank (not many roads around Wales you could actually average 90 mph)
