Guys, super excited, just purchased and not collected as yet a brand new 899. I'm new to sport bikes and new to biking in general, monster 696 previously. Any tips / advice gratefully received Thanks
Hey mate, Great purchase, enjoy! What colour did you go for? The 899 is a fairly forgiving and easy bike to ride to be honest.. how long have you been riding?? Just don't go grabbing a wrist full straight away in first or second and build up your speed & confidence. Try not to get carried away ha ha. This is important because the 899 in my opinion 'flatters' your riding. Anyway you'll love it, nice friendly power delivery until you get up top, fantastic brakes and an all round great balance, just make sure the Corsa tyres are warmed up before giving it 'some'.. I find mine fidgety when cold. Any particular questions, let me know (899 owner). My modifications are, all round R&G grips/protectors (tank, swing arm protection etc) and paddock stand bobbins. Get a radiator guard, the lower rad gets a hammering! Seat cowl (because looks) Alarm - has never worked properly lol. Comfort seat (looks better in my opinion and is higher.. I am 6ft3). Oh and tank pad. I absolutely love mine, I definitely feel better looking after buying mine ha ha!
Welcome in, the only 'must do' I can think of are some grippier foot pegs if u are going to ride in the rain, and a lower radiator guard (Evo tech is good) as the Lower radiator is really in the firing line for crap coming off the front wheel!! Otherwise just enjoy it!
Haha, yeah, me also, on my 848 then one day on the way home I put the slightest bit of pressure though the peg and my foot slipped and I nearly ran over it! Hateful things! Tbf I think it's dependent on what boots u wear and mine were fairly worn. My bike had Ducati Performance ones on when I got it and they are superb!!
Nearly did the exact same thing coming back from Manston on the weekend. Think I put my foot down in mud or something.
Thanks for advice, I got a red one (the only one) ordered a seat cowl and having a tracker fitted. Other than that it's bog standard! I only went to the showroom for a nosey! Only been riding for 2 months! I'm a little on the mature side coming from a cycling and 35k a year car driving background I'm pretty road savvy, I'm taking riding lessons also, novice track day booked for Feb, the thought of which scares the pants off me! I can't wait to get it, sometime next week apparently
Thanks for the warm welcome! Has anyone got any advice for polish / wax to keep it looking as good as it does now?
Get a ventureshield kit fitted, never polish mine just use detailer and a wipe over and try not to use it when the roads start being salted, them ducati's dont like the road salt.Lovely bike
