848 Upgrading My Beauty

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Stefanos, Nov 11, 2015.

  1. Hi there,

Have been thinking of carrying on some improvements on my 848, at the moment it runs pretty much in a factory mode in terms of suspension and other mechanical parts.

Having put a set of tyres that Im really happy with (M7rr), Im now interested in making the bike even safer in terms of its behaviour (not that its unsafe now..!) so I was wondering whether I should first go for a major suspension upgrade or for a slipper clutch. Im mainly using my bike on the road so I often find the opportunity to push the bike a bit during small journeys etc.

What do you guys think ? I mean, we all know undoubtedly that a suspension upgrade is usually a no-brainer but is the slipper clutch a worthy investment as well ?

    Thanks for your time !

  2. If you are aggressive with your down shifts and have a tendency to lock you back wheel up then yes to a slipper clutch,if not then dont bother,i would say a slipper is a nice thing to have but more for track focused riding.

  3. I would spend money on suspension before a slipper clutch, but obviously it's an option. Do u already have a 14t front sprocket and upgraded clutch slave cylinder ?

  4. No I dont, Im waiting for when my chain is done and then I think I'll go on and swap the rear sprocket by 2T. Sorry for asking (bcoz I dont know) but why to upgrade the clutch slave cylinder ? Whats the advantage ?

    Thanks !

  5. Why wait to go for a 14T front sprocket? I bought one from Germany, for very little money, and it took no time to fit it. It made a huge difference to my 848. Have a look at my blog below to see what else I have done.

  6. Much lighter clutch pull action, just made mine SO much nicer to ride, the only trade off is that the clutch movement is a little more

  8. I have a complete upgrade package of suspension parts for an 848 if you are interested?

Consists of Matris 25mm front damper kit and springs, Ohlins DU5110 rear shock, adjustable ride height adjuster and if it's a non evo 848 a DP steering damper!

PM me if you want any photos or info.

  9. Just put a 14t front sprocket on my 1198 .... very good mod and cheap ... makes a big difference when pulling away

  10. Gearing like said before. DP seat and suspension. Best mods you can do.

  11. If you've never touched the suspension that's always going to be the first port of call.

I'm still evaluating, but a rear ride height adjuster to raise the rear will make low speed cornering (around town etc) much easier. Or you can drop the fork yokes for the same result, but its fiddlier to do. It has performance benefits too but I'm not 100% sure its just in my mind!

I'd agree to skip the slipper clutch unless you are locking the rear (though that's not hard to do on these bikes). Could be useful in an emergency.

  12. 41 tooth rear def the way to go. Sort the rear suspension......Sigma Slipper....HM Quickshifter......etc etc etc :)
