848 Anyone Disassembled Their Lcd Dash?

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by redsail, Nov 12, 2015.

  1. I've had my LCD dash replaced from condensation but it still goes foggy at any sign of H2O. I'd still be complaining to Ducati but I want a permanent solution.

Thinking about opening up the dash and putting a sachet of silica gel in there. Anyone opened their's? Is it easy and would silica solve the problem do you think?

  2. I wouldn't tamper if I was you it will void any warranty.

  3. warranty has expired

  4. No, I don't think a packet of silica gel on it's own would solve the problem, which is that moisture penetrates the enclosure. Properly seal the enclosure and you don't need silica gel.

  5. You'd think marelli would have figured that one out already

  7. Heh. Its not even the condensation that bugs me, its Luigi's thumb print that seems to be on the inside face of every dash I've had.

  8. Will have to whip the dash off and see what can be done I guess. I have a vague recollection of seeing some vents round the back when looking at the replacement dash in the dealers.

  9. Bear in mind that some sealants give off acetic acid whilst curing, so check the small print if you go down that route.

  10. There is a round vent on the back of the dash for the barometric pressure sensor. This is built into the dash. Don't block that off.

  11. Sounds like its probably not 100% sealable. Why does the bike need a barometric pressure sensor BTW?

  12. Don't know but it could be for the ECU map for the fueling. Not uncommon, air will get denser as baro rises, so you need more fuel, it would be a pretty small correction admittedly for day to day, but if you were riding through the alps for example without it, the bike would probably run like shit.

Can remember back in the day with carb bikes people at higher alts had to rejet to suit.

    Just a ASS-umption

  13. Take mine apart every year, it's a piece of cake once off the bike. I tried silica Gel, made no difference at all even with several bags.
I drilled an extra vent to let some of the internal heat out of the dash which helped but didn't cure it. Now I coat the inside of the clear Perspex with Anti fog solution once a year and that solves it perfectly. If you don't re coat yearly it start to creep back though.

Don't seal the dash, it makes it worse. It's not moisture getting in, it's the internal/external temp difference and the more you seal it the worse that will be.

  14. Thanks Spoonz, that was exactly the info I was after. I think the main worry I have is that the moisture will cause corrosion and failure of the dash down the line. The fogging itself doesn't really bother me as its not enough to obscure the information. Best option might be to leave it alone.

  15. If you can get to the circuit board you could always coat it in circuit board lacquer. .. bit extreme as you'd think it was tested on design and already be coated.
