  1. See you in April....

  2. No it didn't last long, I have a touch like an elephant and have already broken two heads off those probolt 'cheese made' gold aluminium bolts.... Oh we'll, good old stainless on order ;)

  3. R1 2000 model high mileage! any issues to look for ?

  4. 2000 being a carb isn't it?

To be fair as long as its had regular oil changes and the gearbox feels slick I'm not really aware of any problems with them (there's bound to be one so check with n r1 forum)

the carb 4xv's that me and my mate had were awesome bikes at track, in fact I wish I never sold mine hence why I've kinda gone back but ended up with the first injection simply due to the deal on offer.

theres some lovely 4xv's about mate

  5. Am a great fan of Gixer 750s. . . .relatively sane until 8,000 rpm, then absolutely bonkers.
I've owned a 1998 WX and a K7. both cracking bikes and neither missed a beat.

  6. Hi mate

Its a carb 2000 model with 37k on the clock. Fsh
Bloody lot of bike for the money.. £1500.
Blue as well which i like
Not mint but ideal for a cheap road and track bike as im now duke less.
I Never thought the day would come to own a jap bike but it makes sense at the moment
To have a bike which will not eat my cash.
    Which r1 forum damo?

    Steve

  8. Try this one as i think its more UK based mate - Yamaha R1: News

but there is a huge US biased one which is here - Yamaha R1 Forum

£1500 is good but ive seen them go for ever so slightly more but with half that mileage, it depends what its like condition wise, history etc

Dont get me wrong its £1500 and you get a lot of bike for that but there could be others to be had for an extra £200-£500 with lower miles if your happy to wait for them. Ive just had a look though and £1500 is bloody good going and if kept right im sure itll be good for plenty more miles yet

  9. To be honest you dont need a forum for an R1, just a manual (haynes is not as good as you would think and the factory one is good and online).

If you have any problems, just google them or drop me a line.

  10. Fcuk the R1, sell the missus and buy a 1290 Superduke:upyeah:

  11. Cheers Mate..

I'll keep looking as most on ebay never reach the reserve or sell.
another listed tonight for 1795 open to offers but no clocks!! Yamaha yzf R1 FSH blue 4xv | eBay

  12. Make certain the gearbox is okay as thats the weak point. Tough, reliable and bloody fast otherwise. Budget for a steering damper if not fitted if you like to push on a bit!
There is a good R1 forum kicking about which I think merged with the R6 forum, loads of info but not been on since I sold my 06 R1 a few year back.

  13. I know a guy who has a carb R1, and he reckons even the latest superbikes feel no faster - if as fast, due to the R1 having a good clip of torque in the midrange compared to the newer superbikes.

  14. Feck me! A sorted 1999 R1 is quick :eek::upyeah:
I was Suprised by the torque from low revs up to 8500rpm.
Test ride done now the haggling starts.............

  15. i owned a 4xv and that was fast, but no where near as quick as the crossplaned crank i test rode, that was an awesome bit of kit which i think would get you in trouble, the acceleration on the new one left me quite unnerved

  16. A lot of bike for £1500

    It's a 1999 4XV model with 28k miles and YFSH.
Just needs a good clean and tax.

  17. Nice. Does leave me wondering how relevant brand new bikes are when you can get something so usable and tidy for a comparatively small wedge of change, and where the future of bike development is heading. I think as mentioned in the sportsbikes thread we are going to see more retro / cafe racer / upright bikes.

  18. Practical sportsbike mag is the fastest growing monthly for good reason Phil.
I know the R1 is never going to be a Duke but it's good fun all the same and it's cheaper to insure than my 851 i just sold and i have 2 grand in the bank!
