Yes, the fairing looks different, it looks like it's filled in where the under slung pipes would fit so perhaps the race kit comes with lower fairings to match? There was also no mention of using the LCD Colour dash was there? Or LED lights? Both those things may have got me a little more excited. I don't really mind too much about the side mounted exhausts, what I mind is that they are so big, it would have looked okay with the ones form the 1200r monster, but these are massive and done even sit straight
Ducati obviously realise it looks pants! Underslung pipes are standard on bikes destined for USA, Canada and Australia, only euro 4 bikes get the new configuration!
That's so bad it's comical, Wtf are they thinking. Surely to christ they can produce a better looking euro 4 exhaust than that mess? Completely ruins the bikes looks
Oh, I saw Toby moody on the same flight as me today out to Milan from Birmingham , if I bump into him again I'll ask him for his thoughts
Couldn't they have just run the 899 for another year like they are with the 1299 and spent that year developing/engineering a better solution than this?
My first thought on seeing it was "Yes! I don't want it!" My concern was that it would have the autoblip downshift and a bit more midrange ... apparently it's not got those, and the exhaust looks like the euro4 compliant afterthought that it is ... So, I'll keep riding my 899, which I'm happy to do, cos it's a great bike!
So what is actually new other than the slight increase in bhp/torque, different front end and the woeful exhaust?
Side Exhausts, no auto blipper, shock not sorted, no colour lcd all reasons i went for the 1299 when was shown these a few weeks back when had to decide on replacement bike for faulty 899.
I have to agree with others - that just looks like an afterthought - I was concerned that the residual on my 899 was going to take a big hit but this will help to neutralise the issue - happy days as I need to think about selling to fund a new project.
I was never going to change my 899 anyway so in all honesty i dont give a flying feck about the 959,i was only interested in the bits that might make mine look/go better and as far as i can see there is not one thing better on the 959,i have always prefered the original body panels over the 1299 ones,Ducati have done themselves no favors at all,the rrp is up on the previous model and then factor in a new exhaust and its pushing 15k,go for a full Akra with fitting its near 17k.
So, just for arguments sake, what would 'we' have said if Ducati said the 959 retained the under pipes but they retuned it for Euro 4 and therefore it looses 3hp from the 899 because the cam timing etc to make it cleaner emissions, but fitted slipper clutch, blipper, slightly less weight?
