Is there any identification on the bike to tell you if it was a biposto or a monoposto (other than the seat and subframe itself !) Cheers Scott
Frame number will tell you, if you mail Ducati they will confirm. Heading on the Key card will probably say too, but not sure.
[email protected] They will need the full frame and engine number but you usually get an answer within 24 hours.
Steering stem tube length on the frame is different on the Biposto, it's longer and isn't adjustable in rake
Scott, fwiw the V5 may state whether it is a Bip or Mono. Also if you know the reg you can see how the vehicle is recorded by DVLA here http://ownvehicle.askmid.com/askmid.aspx just type in the reg and security code from the picture, my 999 mono is listed as Vehicle Make/Model: DUCATI 999 BIPOSTA I bought it as advertised, a biposta converted to a monoposto. But.... the site and DVLA is not infallible due to the way the vehicles are recorded at first registration, not sure if this aspect of the reg data can be changed like the engine number, colour
Mines an 2006 749 (not S) Biposto. The head stock isn't adjustable on mine. I've upgraded to ohlins forks and had to have a new steering stem machined as its longer on the base 749 Biposto than the one that came with the S ohlins bottom yoke.
Shaun, I think the steering tube/yolk assembly for the Ohlins system is different than the base model and they may have different part numbers(like the 999 versions). From the user manual for the base 999 "For improved performance on track the headstock angle can be changed (see page 62). STANDARD steering setting for road riding is as follows: Steering head angle: 24°30’ Trail: 97 mm. For track riding, setting can be modified to the following values: Steering head angle: 23° 30’ Trail: 91 mm". Not sure if the 749 base model is the same.
Thanks for replies. The bike I thought was a mono turns out to be a biposto. Not sure if the head is adjustable ( will have to check) So does it make much difference as far as buying if it's a mono or bi ?
Ok. I'm in Oz but the price equates to £6600 for a biposto with mono subframe and seat. With 11000 miles. What do you think ?
Base or S model? Black Swing arm / Red frame or grey swing arm / grey frame? Seems expensive for UK prices. About right to a little pricey for a mint later S model.
05 999s model. Wouldn't say it's mint but pretty good. I think Oz prices are a bit more than UK ! We get shafted here on everything !!
Rear shock will be different on a Bip as its obviously designed to carry one or two persons so will be set up from standard to cover both situations, where as a mono is designed to carry / react to less weight.
Heard back from Ducati and they tell me it was produced as a Monoposto ! The registration papers said it was a 2 seater so I assume they're wrong as it does only have one ! Anyway I'm going to pick it up this week
My bike is a factory supplied 999 mono. The bike is registered as a Biposto with DVLA. It has the 3 position bolt holes on the seat that allows the tank and seat unit to be moved forward and back . The holes are covered by a plastic molding under each side of the seat, held in place by a bolt.
