It breaks the visual design parameters of the bike. The DSS did too, but only mildly. This is like someone rattle-canning a moustache on the Mona Lisa.
I think whoever came up with the advertising slogan 'The new Ducati 959 The perfect balance' must have had an ironic sense of humour with those torpedoes strapped to one side. Eew! Looks awful. I suppose they'll make good sliders if you bin it!.
Gotta agree the standard "torpedoes" look horrendous they remind me of those awful matt black things the SC's had on :smileys: That being said it opens up the possibility for an extreme stubby Racefit/GP style or a Storm Ti special with some hexagonal "anti stone" guard that would look fookin cool , would be raucous noisy days only I think but a lot less expensive than the Akras or Termis, if I was Mr Smith I'd be making some patterns pronto
Funny how on the Ducati.com site, the Europe version of the 959 shows not a single shot of the bike with the dust bins on, think there ashamed...
Some sort of vapour collector I think. The Americans go on about it being a pain in the ass on their bikes.
I actually remember reading about common Panigale problems when I first bought mine, this canister issue being one of them. I went out to the garage armed with the instructions on how to remove it, took the fairings off to find there wasn't one there, some further reading online and I found out our UK bikes don't have one fitted. Yeah, I felt like a total dumb ass...
Seems like the 959 is 7kgs heavier than the 899. I was thinking of getting a 959, i wanted a new ducati but i am having second thoughts. It very little change for the better with some after part bolt on exhaust in order to meet new rules.
I think it's mainly the exhaust that's responsible for the extra weight. Another reason to hate it, not that we needed one.
Give it a wee while and folk will get used to the pipes. They stand out currently as its a bit of a shitty shock to see what they did to the Panigale's lovely lines... It will pass.
So glad I have my 899 with appropriate lines, including discrete pipes At least the new model won't devalue mine...lol
