1200 Enduro What Bmw Can Do, Ducati Can Do Better?? Adventure V.s. Enduro :-)

  1. I really like the look of it , always liked that sort of style for the road. Never done off road and I am not starting now.
Had my PP for nearly 3 years now and nothing until this has grabbed my attention. Looking forward to seing it at the bike show and then my order goes in for next March. :)
The new PP looks odd in my opinion.
Each to their own as always ;)

  2. Sorry but I think they have lost the plot, when the brought out the 1200 it was a bike that you could use to ride to work through traffic, ride at the weekend through the twisty's or go 2 up touring through any country you felt like, but with pin point handling and feel, now ok they made it more capable of riding on dirt but at what cost to the other modes? sorry waste of money in my eyes. I even think the GS is a waste of time for most touring people, I've ridden with loads of them and not one I've seen has gone more than 10 foot over grass and that was just to take a shortcut out of a crowded car park. fair enough it's a good mod if your going to ride through a desert but most of us bought the multi in part for it's handling on the road and will never take it off road just like 99% of the GS riders in the world.

  3. Same as 99% of 4x4's JC.

  4. Apart from the wheel diameters / widths and the frame geometry / suspension changes which I assume are more optimized for off road, the front brakes are as per the 1200 standard (i.e Monoblock / 320mm rotas) not the 1200S DVT (Evo M50 / 330mm rotas). The final drive is also 15/43 rather than 15/40, which may be a tooth too far for the road. Oh yeah, then there is the increase in weight.

  5. Like 99% of range rovers and the like, but people buy them because they like how they look. I suspect this will have a lot to do with why people buy the enduro. It looks fantastic!

  6. Plus the bigger tank. When the zombie apocalypse happens and the world descends into a mad max like scenario... I'll be needing to go off-road with more fuel range.

  7. Off-road capable bike = rider with balls of steel.

  8. So what you are saying is that every GS, Multistrada, African Twin, Tenere, Adventure, Vstrom, Tiger, Turismo, Versys rider have got some heavy equipment over there

    Hahaha :tearsofjoy:

  9. i just can't see the image and words together, Ducati and Enduro ? I think the idea of round the world traveler or long distance touring is ok and thats why could work but the dirt and the off-road still not Ducati. Ducati is very alien to off-road. That bike going to be very tall its a good bike but i still think i wouldn't take this bike to go to morocco or cape town :) there are better bigger boys doing this for years, KTM and BMW and now africa twin coming back by honda.

  10. That's all very true, but I think this is more of a first dipping of the toe in the adventure water. It's possibly not going to compete with a GS or KTM straight off the bat, but the fact is that Ducati will sell a lot of these because it looks cool and appears capable. People like me that like the idea of a GS but want a Ducati. The hardcore adventure riders will still buy KTMs and GS's, but Ducati will still take some market share. Bear in mind, the GS has been a best-seller in the UK for many years, and probably only 5% of those buyers are hardcore adventure riders. Ducati is pitching this at buyers who like the idea of being an adventure rider, but in reality will never go near any rough terrain (like what I was saying about range rovers).

  11. Sure, Range Rovers and similar Chelsea tractors seem totally overspecified and underused - for 50 weeks of the year, maybe. Then you get snow blizzards, or floods, or you need to tow a trailer across a field, and suddenly the 4WD drivers look sensible after all. Happens every year.

  12. KTM didn't do really road bikes and then came out with absolutely stonking good supermoto bikes and also the awesome RC8R.

If they could tell me how deep I can ride in water, I'd go anywhere on mine.

  13. Jaa before that make sure you've fitted a crossbow on the bike and practiced the head stab with the knife while riding :Hungry:

  15. Not sure on those dvt's but my 2010 has a 'breather' type vent bit where the horizontal belt goes. Wouldn't want the belt dragging water in.

  16. Mine is pissing oil out somewhere around that belt cover breather, so I definitely wouldn't be trying it!

  17. So the Adventure is going to sell a shed load because it strokes people's ego. They live on an estate on the outskirts of a town, but they like the idea that they could take off for Bobo-Dioulasso should they suddenly fancy it. Which they won't.
It's a bit odd because surely some of the ego-stroking mods make the already hugely capable bike suddenly less capable for doing what owners are going to be doing 99% of the time. I mean, you're not going to mess around in a gravel pit with £17k's worth of shiny new motorcycle are you?

People decry Ducati's marketing but this model shows that they understand their market perfectly. It's all about fulfilling dreams, not needs. Let's face it - it's a bit of a poser's bike, isn't it? Not that I care. Posing is all part of the fun of biking (but at least own up to it).
Sports bike riders really do take their bikes to the track. Are all the Adventure owners going to be heading for a desert (pretty much the last place you want to head these days if you want to keep yours)?

But it will also go down a storm with Kuwaiti princes.

  19. Haha. My mate bought a new GS for 2 reasons.
    1) He wants to know if he wants to suddenly take a trip to the Sahara the bike will do it (like he ever will)
    2) CRAP service from his local Ducati shop (north wales. Mention no names!)
Oh, and he can't clean a chain to save his (or the chains) life!
I bought the multi as the closest to off road I will ride is parking by the side of it!
I want a tourer/sports bike/road bike. Would I like the enduro? Yes! Just for the extra 10L tank!!!

  20. Yes good point about the hole with the foam on it that goes straight to the belts.

That vent is still there on the new enduro too, always wondered if that got massively wet inside what would happen ?
