I am screwed now

  1. When my 848 got binned the assessor couldn't have cared less about the bits I'd added, I had however managed to remove the full termi prior to his visit...
But don't expect to get paid out for your expensive bling if you haven't declared it.

I guess it's a double edged sword, don't tell and run the risk, tell, get cover and pay more premium.

  2. Nelson thing is you will not be paid for extras even if you declare them, well most policies. They only replace with original parts or nothing.

Freak I never had issues with them as well but it seems they are cutting down on mods. Maybe I should get my V5 back to 904cc as original

  3. What you also have to remember is that there is a good chance that the assessor will know fuck all about bikes. My experience of assessors is they they just look at the damage and are usually with the car/bike for about 10 mins.

They are not going to strip the engine to measure the bore, they wont know a standard carb to a fancy one.

  4. Another vote here for eBike multi-bike. I've declared all my mods and got them all properly replaced on my SuperDuke when I had a SMIDSY a few years ago. Carbon Dymags, titanium Akras, Rizoma rearsets, R&G crash bungs and handlebar ends, carbon this-that-and-the-other.

Another alternative would be Ducati Insurance multi-bike - they have a catch-all category of 'other modifications' whereas eBike want them all itemised - so they might be good for you. Probably more expensive that eBike though.

  5. What p'ed me off was they wouldn't pursue the the cost of the items from the 3rd party. So, effectively I was still out of pocket, despite admission of liability by the other side.

  6. Dave my issue is with Ducati insurance. Last year quote 575 with 2y ncb, change off address on June drop by 25gbp. Renewal on October jumps to 2800gbp!!!!!
Drop to TP F&T and quote drops to 825.

Just done ebike. All mods declared as with DI full comp 1388 so much less but still no for that money, not worth it. However TP F&T 525 kind off result.

  7. Luca, not sure who you were insured with but maybe it is worth avoiding the online companies and try visiting a local broker who you can talk to face tro face and then the broker can speak to the insurance company. Also, how about who you use for household insurance or any other insurance you have? It may not help but it is worth a try.

  8. Bl**dy hell - £2800! I'm paying less than that for seven bikes including my D16. Seems like they don't want your business.

Even the eBike quote is high - more than I was paying for all mine before I got the Desmosedici.

I guess that's London for you!

  9. You didn't tell them you had fitted a lot of the mods did you?

  10. Well went one time to NatWest. You do vehicle insurance? Yes. Motorbike? Out.

London is more expensive for that. I did a quote one time for Cambridge drop by 40%.

I know DI does not want my business no more. However many were lately saying DI cannot insure them due to mods so might be shift in thinking?

    I will trim my quote/modifications.

What is tunning? Is setting up ecu to work with open airbox and other cans running?

  11. I did, the main obvious one's. Might remove heated grips and all that.

  12. Understood Doodle - above was over 40 years ago so maybe policies were different back then or else I didn't grasp it correctly.

  13. Quite possibly - one can almost see the 3rd party responsibility being brought into law to deal with such eventualities.

  14. My 916 is insured with Carole Nash on an agreed value 'custom' policy, they were happy to cover the mods and an agreed value of around double that of a standard bike but then this year they put the policy up by 50%, claiming that modified bikes are becoming harder to insure.

Prior to this custom policy I had declared mods and the ins. co. were OK with them but said they would only replace with standard parts in the event of a claim, despite standard parts being usually more expensive than aftermarket, if they are even still available for a 14yr old bike?...

I hope they don't stop insuring modified bikes because both of mine are considerably non-standard... :frown:

  15. With anti tamer looming who knows how this will pan out...:frown:

Mine is become more and more less standard with each passing day/£...

  16. Dukedesmo what I do not get is why using agreed value insurance they even care about mods. You insure it for X and they pay X you worry later done.

This is all becoming a great scam.

  17. Just do as 99.999% of people do and insure it as a standard bike.....................................

  18. I ve insured my bikes with mods declared with ducati insurance for years and they are consistently the cheapest by far and never had an issue with them over modifications to the bikes - the usual termis, carbon bling, brakes etc etc

  19. Simon Hargreaves writes in this month's Bike magazine:

'What a tiresome, loathsome, greedy industry insurance is. We've had the behaviour of politicians, newspapers, banking and sportsmen held to account recently, insurers be afraid, it's your turn next.'

    I sincerely hope he's right:frown:

  20. There are very few cases where an insurer manages to succesfully not pay at all less you say its an engine upgrade, so thats a gimme. As dor other bits, normally (word of caution means a risk it wont work out) they will just pay for the cost of std replacemnet. But....if they can prove the mod had the affect of creating the claim, eg covered in carbon and got nicked or lack of ignition and same, they will try everything not to pay a bean
