Although on second thoughts, i would not be in a position to remove the rear wheel with the cotton bobbin set up?

Nah I could only find normal sliders in the UK too, there's a screwed rod that goes between them to fit them tho. The wheel change would be your first problem....that's why most people use a proper single side paddock stand. They are by r&g and a bit of a faff to take off and on you need a socket on each side to take off and on or one side just spins, they would probably do as paddock hooks but i went for a ducati paddock stand that went through the swingarm. The front ones and the r&g bar ends were worth having though!
Thanks for the heads up on the stands anth, they would fit the 1098 do you think? I think the single sided stand or maybe the abba are the two best options although i am sure someone said the abba stand was taking his frame paint off? Sorry to go on and on about stands LOL! Hi Phil, I use an ABBA stand for anything more than just cleaning, and I have no damage to my frame....but I am I admit very careful when I put it on and off, and I did have some electrical heat shrink over the pins at one time. They are no where near as practical for quick on off daily use as a paddock stand, but I wouldn't be without it, all my bigger jobs have been done on the ABBA. Those stands will fit.....but as I posted earlier the pin is the small 748/848 size, but I have the two different sized 1098 pins, if you bought them I'd swap you the pin for whichever one your bike needed. The Gubellini / DP stands are brilliant, just way too expensive...they retailed at near £180 each last time I looked.
ABBA stand on top of the bike lift and the back wheel pulled down to the lift with a ratchet strap. But it's just as easy with a sling or 1" ratchet strap around the headstock to the garage ceiling.....that's how I have done other bikes. If your not changing or removing the yoke then you could use a headstock paddock stand tho.
Cheers - pretty sure my yoke doesn't have a hole to accommodate that type of stand. I've also hung from the roof before, not too keen on that method as it makes thing a bit wobbly.... I'll have a look at the abba stand, good idea strapping the rear down...
well, some small changes can make quit a diff.. the racing seat i put on just added 2cm height but the bike feels muuuch more comfortable... especially for long legs ( or stiff ones ) a good positioning has huge impact on your riding and thus safety... as Foggy will confirm! grtz Koen
Ah right, I knew some Ducati yokes didn't have a hole in the bottom but I thought the 748 one did. On the ABBA stand it's not wobbly at all no matter which way you do it, they are rock solid. On some bike's with the ABBA in you can just pivot the front up, like on a centre stand. But the C of G on the 848 makes the front to heavy, even a bag of sand on the back wheel wouldn't tip it.
I've used my brother's BMW ABBA in the past, just have to adapt the inserts with the clever use of a couple of spare sockets...:wink:

Just noticed these too Laser Tools 5339 Front & Rear Wheel Sockets Ducati not sure if the smaller one is of any use though? I have a direct account with them so can get a set at a reasonable price. What do you guys use for the rear wheel nut? I believe they are TIGHT! Sealey also do a single sided paddock stand but not sure what they would be like quality wise. I like the ABBA stand but it will depend on where the bike is actually going to end up parked! Its going in the kitchen if it fits through the door LOL.
Just buy the relevant bi-hex sockets, as you've read a lot of people have problems with......dare I say it....tight nuts . The 1098 rear nuts should be 230Nm or 170Lbft If they have been torqued up correctly with lube on the thread and spot faces then no problem, if not and they're tight then the aluminium 'tool' will just end up all chewed up and you'll bust your knuckles. I've only ever used a small (30" ish) Norbar torque wrench on mine with standard bi-hex sockets. Doors can be widened....just tell the builder it's for wheel chair access and it will fit in a dream. The ABBA stand is excellent, but it would be a pain in the arse putting it on and off it every day.
LOL Anth! Hopefully its a little narrower than my gsxr as that would not fit, my ZXR did though! I will forget the aluminium tool then. What size socket do you use? Is it 55mm?
For the 1098 rear it's 55mm and 30mm for the front. It could be narrow enough to get through, as long as its extra length doesn't cause a problem.
In short I'd suggest a single-sided stand for popping her up to look good, cleaning, wheel removal and chain oiling/waxing. Invest in an ABBA if you need one later for bigger jobs. As Anth says, the ABBA is great, but a bit of a ball ache to use day in day out.
Bike was supposed to be delivered this week or collected by myself in the morning. Weather looks good for tomorrow and a ride out organised with my mates but am now told its not had a PDI and service yet and will be next week : ( I thought the weather was being kind for me tomorrow! Oh well, never mind, now where's my knitting brochure............
