I'm getting conflicting story's here. It's fair to say the engine will fit straight in. Are you saying the swing arm will go straight in or may be a hassle? Not sure if bodywork will fit? The deeper v I take it will be on the 749 as its a 2004. Would that make it more rigid?
Hi Simon, If I read your posts correctly you want to keep the 916 shape, but want more power? The 996R/998 was probably as pokey as they got, without investing £££££££ in engine work. I'd suggest looking at a 1098/1198 conversion, either start with a 'cheap' donor bike (748) or if you're planning the full electrical/brake/suspension upgrade, it may be better to just buy the parts as you go. Few chaps on here have made to conversion and happy to help... Bloody nice package when finished...:Artist:
748/916 bodywork wont fit easily on a 749 chassis and will require custom subframes at both ends plus moving electrics, airbox etc etc. Changing the twin swingarm to single sided is big job also.
From what I have learned the only advantage the 999 chassis has over the 916-998 is the longer swingarm by 1" but I think mere mortals will be spending a lot of cash with no lap time changes to honor the cash spent. I am happy to be corrected here, but there is not a lot of difference from 916 to 1198 frame wise.
Here's my 996/1098 waspyfrankinduke. Very happy with the result only the airbox was a pain in the arse.!! It's on the build/ Projects forum thread.
