I'm not defending what's happened, nowt to do with me, and as a very frequent poster on the old site, with some painfully assembled posts on model histories, I share the frustration variously expressed above in this thread. But there's no evidence whatever that JHP intend to run that or any other forum; as has been explained, they appear simply to have bought the domain name so that interested parties get taken to the JHP website.
I just don't understand why Dan did what he did, I only started using Ducatisti late last year and found tonns of info on there Dan seemed to be a good position he was getting help from the members and was even offered a way out, I started the UK GSX650F and GSX1250F forum back in 2008 but after changing bikes I offered it to any member who wanted to take it on for FREE it's now run by a two members and doing well.
I hate the thought of you guys being dis-heartened enough with what has happened in the past, affecting your future contributions to the new forum and your help offered to others. I think I understand where your coming from Arthur, but I know your not turning your back on the community as I know your still helping people like me, with free help and advice.... And Dave you just connot leave Nog's blogg where it is now, there's just too much interest! Anth
No I don't have any hard feelings mate over the old site my time is spent over many many forums and I love to help people like you mate...
Well Spring is well and truly here...........maybe time for the first DucatiForum mass rideout? .........who knows Dan's address?
guys, just to take a step back, what evidence do we have that Dan has sold the forum or domain name? Has any one asked him?
I did a few searches on common Ducati questions, not a single one linked to an old Ducatisti thread, and nothing about JHP. It seems as far as Google is concerned, Ducatisti is dead. If you search for the forum it gives a single hit which is a dead link.
Anth, it hasnt affected how I feel about posting, and of course, I'll continue Nogs Blog......we'll have more info after sundays testing at Cadwell......and if I can post anything that helps anyone I'm more than happy too. A mass rideout to Torquay would be fun.....Lol....
Being fairly new to Ducatisti, about 18 months or so i didn't lose a lot. What annoyed me just as a user was the stonewalling. The impression given that it was temporary and technical in nature when it never was either. The same message that was still there months after saying back soon. If Dan was fed up, that's fair enough but what he did was just plain rude from whatever angle you approach it from. Just put up a message "i've had enough it's closing in 5 days" Is that so hard and if it was ask a mod on his behalf. It's all just so un necessary for the sake of a bit of communication, which is what annoyed me.
I think that if the new owners use any of the personal information that was collected by trhe previous owners there could be a MASSIVE data protection issue... Just my opinion...
I would actually like to say a big thanks to nog, ghost, jerry and al to name just a few. The quality of your posts was always excellent and I have gleamed many useful facts frotm your posts over the last 2 years. I came to ducatisti a ducati virgin and without having done any ducati research prior to purchase.... I fell in love  what I have learned has gone on to help others and I have always contributed with the attitude of helping the community in return. I do think that financial donations were a badge worn for the wrong reasons by some so I hope that doesnt repeat on here. New members keep the wheels turning and attract sponsors? Plus all the "tax disk and why wont my yellow bike go as fast as my red one"posts yet to come. When noobs look for a Ducati forum they go to google and type in "ducati forum" and not "ducatisti". I hope that basic point will bring this site prosperity as it seems a great place to hang out and is actually a slightly nicer home than our former. We the contributers make this what it is so lets make this site THE ducati forum. jc
OK so straight from the horses mouth... I had to call JHP for something today, whilst on the phone I mentioned this thread and the fact that the old Ducatisti domain now redirects to JHP, I won't name names but the person I spoke to didn't know anything about this and said he would ask others in the store and call me back... 10 minutes passed and the phone rang, no-one at JHP knows anything about this and they certainly haven't bought the domain, all they can assume is that Dan has redirected the Ducatisti domain to there's as they sponsored the site and also serviced Dan's bike(s) over the past few years. That explains the redirect I guess, but doesn't explain everything else HTH
Hi guys, Deano from Ducati Coventry here. Just to let you all know here at JHP Ducati Coventry we know nothing and have not purchased the domain or the data from Dan. It appears that Dan has redirected it to us under his own steam. We wish Dan all the best for the future. Deano Ducati Coventry
Why can't he do what he wants with something he owns himself? He never pretended to be an owner's club or anything else that would imply responsibility to anyone. He came into the market at a time when the most popular UK forum was being torn apart by a dictatorship and offered something different and we all flocked to it. Those who chose to donate chose to do exactly that, DONATE! It doesn't imply anything beyond that, despite what some may think, you don't get to take charity back because you don't like the circumstances anymore - grow up! In my opinion some people are getting carried away with their own self importance - how do you know something bad hasn't befallen Dan and his family? Even if it hasn't, Ducatisti was his to do what he pleases with. Are you lot going to pop in my bathroom and tell me how to brush my teeth?! I'd be in favour of Dan releasing some tech info but you know what, if he couldn't be arsed then fair enough - especially after all this bollocks written about him. He gave all of us a refuge that suited our purposes and it's disingenuous to pretend otherwise and start complaining like there was no value in the service he gave us - over many years. Anyway ... flame me if you want, I just think you people need to take a step back. This forum has replaced Ducatisti-why are people still annoyed, we should be thankful to Rob instead...
Totally agree with all that. I was a very high poster on the old site, and as I've said previously, it's frustrating that some of the technical info has disappeared into the ether. But I am baffled by people's readiness to jump to the very worst assumptions.
