I have been waiting for this bike but after seeing how bad the exhaust looks I am now having to go back to the drawing board, because there is no way I would want one looking like that, and the akro doesn't look much better. I would usually push the boat out and buy a bike and budget on putting a tail tidy on straight away, and then when my wallet has recovered I would put some other bits on, but now unless you don't mind people laughing at your pride and joy you have to budget for an exhaust too. So unless Ducati will be offering a free exhaust system then it's off my shopping list. The alternatives are a base 1299 depending on how much you can realistically get off the RRP or something else :anguished:
But for those who can see past the exhaust 'issue' and think the 899 needs more mid range (I am not one of them) the comparison dyno suggests that back to back on the road the 959 will win by quite a margin....
Going for a base 1299 if you can afford it has to be the way to go if you want something new. Couldn't a lightly used 899 be an option? I hope Ducati are seeing these kind of comments and do something about future bikes!
I'm in the same situation. There's 3 or 4 other people posted in this thread saying the same thing, I haven't seen anyone saying they're buying a 959. I'm now looking at pre-registered 899s or taking the jump to the 1299.
I bought a 2014 (register 30th December) 899 with termi's and other nice bits with 800 miles on the clock for £11500 which I was pretty happy with, it's mint
I picked up a July 2014 899, termi,s and every DP Carbon extra, evotech tail tidy and mra screen, 1000 miles on the clock, just had annual servce. £10500. (Purchased August) I'm extremely happy with the bike... It's a credit to the original owner.. Brand new condition. I was originally worried about the new model coming out before I bought mine. I pestered Tim Maccabee over lunch at MotoGP and he wouldn't confirm or deny the replacement!! I ended up just going for it and couldn't be happier. The 959 hasn't changed that. No real tech advances, no ohlins, no colour screen, no sssa and obviously that exhaust!! One happy 899 owner here!!
I was thinking about getting a 959 but the change of exhaust really put me off. I thought about a 1299 but i don't really think its a option for me so i ended with an 899. First ducati for me and i can't wait to pick it up, just hope there is a bit of clean weather so i can enjoy it.
I would want one with as much warranty as possible hence why I want a new one. I'm I right in thinking that you can't extend the warranty anymore? If anyone knows what discounts are available on a 1299 let me know, especially as they have the exhaust offer on at the moment. Wrong bike though, if any bike needs an exhaust offer it's the 959.
If I've read the early reports correctly the exhaust has now been changed to a 60mm pipe, the same as a 1299 (possibly 1199?) So any aftermarket exhaust or even stock exhuast from those 'may' be able to fit.
i might take a punt on one if there are deals to be had.I may put my bike back to standard and transfer all my bits over inc all the fairings onto the 959,i have the original red 899 fairings new and unused up in the loft and my painted set on my 899,i think i could change for less than 2k but would end up with a new 959 with 899 fairings(my prefered choice)and all the right bits.So there you go i want a 959 and may order one if the figures work.Dont think i will get much for the 959 standard exhaust but i am sure i will raise a few hundred selling the 959 fairings in a new and unused condition.
Whatever anyone says, we will get used to the new exhausts and if the 959 is a better bike, which it appears it is, then it will still sell well as it has very little competition. Its only two years ago everyone reckoned the double side swingarm was a disaster and now no one ever mentions it.
