I like the cafe racer thingy...that was nice...probably costs about 60k or something like that though....
The DSS would not prevent me buying an 899 if I wanted one. That does not mean I like its aesthetics. Why is this difficult for some people to understand? And did I say the DSS impacted sales significantly (not that I care much about Ducati's sales figures)? The reason I wouldn't buy an 899 ATM in NOT because it doesn't have a SSA. Its because its not significantly better than or different enough to my 848 and in many ways its worse (IMO). Aesthetically the cans are orders of magnitude worse than the DSS and I can imagine many people wanting to get rid of them but baulking at the cost.
Completely agree that some just don't like the panigale in general, I think u are either a fan of the 848 or one of the 899, very rarely both. I had my 848 for a year, got sick of it really quickly and think the 899 addresses almost everything I hated about the 848, but that's just me, I have spent my life on 600's and Daytona 675's and so I want the bike to steer and feel like one of those, which the 899 does. If you are new and getting into Ducati, the 899 will go down really well with you, if you've loved Ducati's of old it's a bit more touch and go. The DSSA, I think it looks really good on the 899, it does a better job of hiding the exhaust collectors etc, and don't have such a ridiculous sized heat shield like on the 1199
Honda Motorcycles is steered very much by Honda North America whose only goal would appear to be profit which is why they have brought out so many dull and disappointing motorcycles in recent years. This was told to me by someone who works for the company.
Yep, I'm with you. Would love a daytona myself That said I've managed to dial out some of the slow steering on the 848 that characterises the bike, its very nimble now though I more or less stumbled on the setting, it's a tricky bike to set up. I noticed the 899 was much quicker steering. What rules out the bike for me is tank and riding position. I'd need to have some sort of prosthetic (either for me or the bike!) to soften the crotch/tank interface. I notice that the WSB bikes have different tanks that are more like the old ducs. Ball savers.
Yeah totally agree, loved the seat and tank arrangement on the 848, but prefer the slightly closer bar positioning and as u say the 848 out of the box is a bit hard work to steer, it's beautifully stable but if I was committed on my fav roads I just never felt like I would be able to get the bike to respond quick enough if I needed it too, like adjusting a line. I still look at the 848 all the time, they are so traditionally beautiful! Also, I'm going to have another Daytona at some point, but needs to be an 'old shape' 675r with underseat pipe as they sounded just phenomenal with the arrow pipe, really basey and loads of crackling on the over run etc. Had two Daytona's, phenomenal bikes, just thought the newer model is a little too 'polished', the older one is a little bit more special IMHO
This is spot on and exactly what the ride height has (mostly) fixed on my 848. Its now very easy to correct mid corner, feels effortless in comparison but at the expense of stability. I might drop it a few mm to get some of that back as I'm used to man handling the thing round corners now Back On Topic, those pipes are still ugly
sod the topic, its grey and old. when I first got on a phani, i was very aware of the tank stuck in me nuts, and felt like the back end was tipping me right into the full colour tft dash, however, with the rear set up and softened, that disappeared, and now its just epic. Fast, stable, balanced, perfick.
Back on topic, one of the two 959s on display had been "accessorised" with a very nice set of Akrapovic cans that looked a lot better. Couldn't get near enough to get pictures but a vast improvement. The new cans did expose the Multistrada style cat box which is as big and ugly. Andy
Trouble is they aren't much louder and don't have removable baffles, which is a shame, if they did then job done.... I'm going to have a proper look around it tomorrow
we were really close got to the show at 2,45 pm it was easy to see all the bikes , I thought them akras looked just as bad and you had to pay extra to get the akra look, they really fkd up on this one, the 1199r looked good tho.
Mv stand was pretty good, wanted to like the Bimota but it was all a bit Star Wars for me,was disappointed with the Ducati stand the Diavel x was better looking in the photo's,looking to change the Multi pp next year so took the Mrs along and i say this with much sadness we both agreed the S1000rx is its likely replacement but after 5 years of the Multi's i think a change is needed.
Hello Mate, how you doing? The video I posted a few posts ago shows Ducati are still pushing boundaries, imo. Thing is, you release something as stunning as the first Panigale, and where the hell do you go from there? Euro4 has dictated the expanding exhaust, and as im sure Ducati tech will admit, theres just no room to hide it. If only we were an independent country with our own laws, we could have the standard Pani exhuast system. Claudio basically confirms this in the film (25 mins onwards). Shame but true
They is all ugly bro. On a side note, it will be interesting to see if the 959s get underslung cans? And another thing, its ok Claudio saying some countries can run underslung cans, thats like saying some countries can run Termis stamped with 'race only' Surely people with termis/acra props, must be more concerned, than people worrying about the two smoking barrels of the 959? along comes Porsche Lawyers. LOQL........
I'm good mate. Hope you well too? I wasn't just talking about the 959. I also looked at the monsters too and they aren't like the previous models in my eyes. I'd struggle to buy a new Ducati currently as I don't find any desirable at all which I could afford. Bearing in mind I've had 5 new ones in the last 5 years. 1199R and 1299 look great but not as good as the 1199 and 1098R.
