The switch from MTS1200 to Yamaha Super Tenere

  1. 9 years i had a R1 ragged the shit out of it chains and tyres , it never ever went pop , its my mates who wind me up about how fragile Ducatis are puts a doubt in my mind but so far touch wood only starter motor bushes needed replacing. dont idle at moment but it runs ;)

  3. This is interesting, I noted on my MTS when I pulled the clutch in the engine revs jumped. Ducati also have a switch linked to the clutch lever, I am unsure what this does apart from increase revs ? Perhaps it also changes the Mapping?

    Hey I tried that...wow, as if you had twice the acceleration :-O

    Did a test with the accelerator to compare the two...not as good...I think that switch has potential!!! and it only works above idling revs.

    Sooooo... who's going to play around with this innovation??

  5. I have thought about what new bike I might like to get to replace the Multi but to be perfectly honest I can't think of another bike I'd rather have at this moment in time - and it's been that way ever since I bought it in early 2010.
     
  6. I agree Bob, the best I could come up with is a newer Multistrada, perhaps the PP version? I just love riding the one I have, it's still a fantastic machine 2 years into ownership.
     
  7. I guess your likely suspects would be new water cooled GS, New KTM adventure & New Aprillia Caponord, when they eventually come out, & see what inovations they come up with on these new models.

    But none of these float my boat so will stick with multi for now.
     
  8. I'm with Bob, there's nothing else at the moment I'd replace with.

    The new KTM shows promise but the running costs will make the Ducati look positively cheap and it looks like it'll still be compromised on road.
    The Aprilia looks like may be too heavy and down on power.
    A 1250GSA I could live with, trading some performance for protection and a massive fuel tank, but that's a way off yet.

  10. RUNNING COST is totally different expense to buying the bike unless your one of them bikers that does about 300 miles a year lol
     
  11. If it's 5 grand cheaper to start with it's gonna have to be bloody expensive to run to make it dearer than the duke.
     
  12. It felt 5k cheaper too, went and tried 1 out before buyin the mts, I just didnt like the feel i got from the KTM albeit they handle well
     
  13. Well, in the case of the 990 Adventure, it's 4500miles service intervals and 3.5 hrs for a minor service.

    The price difference between that and an MTS12 ABS (a much fairer comparison) is only about £2.5k. You can bet the 1190 will be a good chunk more, probably within sneezing distance of the MTS price.

    They also seem to need a lot more constant attention than the Ducati has done so far.

  15. Mines in for the 15K service and I have been quoted £450. Better than the scary £700 I'd heard from others previously!

    Can they do the ecu checks as well?
     
  17. That's about the same as the major service on the KTM then, before any unforseens. However, in the 6 major services my KTM-owning friend has had (4 on an Adventure, 2 on a SuperDuke), only 2 have gone to plan.

    So from now on we're doing them in my garage, apparently :eek:
     
  18. I was told £800 by OYB, but if service is performed because of the 2 year limit and mileage was low then it would £300 to £400 depending on parts required. May explain variation.
