1200 DVT Anyone Else Disappointed By The New 2016 Pp?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Spencer Gardner, Nov 25, 2015.

  1. Had a look at the PP at the bike show today and can confirm belt covers and rear hugger are not carbon the front mudguard is,so a 2k price hike with less carbon and no forged rims but you gain Ohlins,Ducati are taking the piss with this one, lets be honest by the time you add the odd bit of bling and luggage its not far off twice the price of the base model.

  2. Best purchase option would be a non S dvt @ £11995 with panniers foc.

  3. So it gets worse.

    At £19356 (otr I presume)

It's already circa £6250 more than a base model, not taking in to account deals available on either model.

Neither have skyhook, a centre stand or heated grips and both share exactly the same engine so that equals it out, then you're down to the finer points.

Ultimately to make the 'special' Pikes Peak they've not had to use any of the following parts from the base model so have saved costs here :

    Monochrome screen (replaced with colour)
Standard exhaust (replaced with termi non full system)
Suspension front and rear (replaced with ohlins)
    Standard screen (replaced with carbon)
Front and rear mudguard (replaced with carbon)

So that £6k + has paid to 'upgrade' those stock parts mentioned above and pays for a few bits of vinyl lacquered over.

Considering the fact that you don't actually get those standard parts in a box it's difference is actually way over £6k, God knows what the standard suspension set up costs to produce but add it all up I bet you're nearing £7500 difference in cost give or take.

It's an anal way to look at it, but realistically, if somebody gave you a standard bike missing all those standard parts, would it even cost you £7k+ to make it look like the Pikes peak?

I'm not sure it would you know.

It definitely makes buying a standard model and adding your own paint and suspension upgrades a far better choice.

  4. What also makes it worse is the Euro Exchange rate has been ok for last few months, but odd that the retail price never changes

  5. @GaryO I would wait or at least go see a dealer and tell them your thoughts, see if you can trash out a deal, something tells me this model is not going to be rushing out the door.
There are some Dealers who will bend over backwards to sell you a bike.

  6. Depends how impatient you are. They'll be deals to be had by early summer if they haven't been able to shift them, especially if people have been buying BMWs and KTMs instead, which they will.

  7. Even still it'd have to be one hell of a deal

If I had the money (which I currently don't) I'm not sure I'd consider spending more than £16500? Even then I'd have to think twice

If it's the looks you want then buy an S Model and have it painted, or a standard model and get it's suspension updated

It's just not a convincing bike especially how they're trying to position it.

For a start they've said they've gone Ohlins because it's more race orientated, so who on earth is going to seriously look at the DVT multistrada for any track / race work? Especially running the engine standard

It'd likely get trounced by the Bmw and KTM with or without Ohlins, the engine simply isn't as powerful or the bike as nimble.

So that puts it back predominantly as a sports tourer. So at that do you really want manual Ohlins?

Don't get me wrong I would like manual suspension as I like the way it adjusts properly, but at the expense of £19k+ you'd have to be bonkers :)

Honestly I'm at a loss with the concept, the only true reason I can see why they've really added the Ohlins for is to try and justify the price to well off buyers who pay before they think.

It's not even close to being the most powerful sports tourer, there's not even a quick shifter or a full exhaust.

  8. TBH i never thought the original Pikes Peak was that special either for the price difference.

I bet a base Multi with suspension upgrades specifically for you as the rider would make a better bike. You could add in forged wheels and carbon bits and still be in pocket.

  9. I saw the PP in the flesh today and disappointed was an understatement, the only carbon items, front mudguard / top fairing trims around tank plastics and a carbon screen. Rear hangers in black / paint job / the ohlins shock and forks do not look like top spec.

A few bods standing around were saying its a fooking rip off !

Strangely I have a dealer trying to sell me one, he thinks he's doing me a favour !

  10. That could have been me! Been to NEC Today and saw for myself

    I'm wanting to change, but...

I'm so disappointed with this model and annoyed at the same time, Ducati have got this so wrong in my opinion, this bike is a serious rip off!

I'll be amazed if this bike sells in this format and price bracket

  11. I don't think it's even paint, unless the one I saw in Milan was pre production and different I'm adamant it was vinyl stickers under lacquer.

Not that there's anything wrong with that but I guess what im saying is you could achieve exactly the same look using no more than £20's worth of vinyl, and that's leaving room for it being expensive vinyl like a cast.

Then just have it lacquered over

  12. You know what the problem will be though, is that they can't reduce its price now as it'd look like they've been trying it on all the time.

  13. The one at the NEC is lacquered over vinyls as far as I could see

  14. Give it 6-12 months when they see they haven't sold anything like what they have budgeted for!

  15. Im just awaiting the motogeo & MCN reviews, I'm sure both are being given a brown paper envelope as we speak with the insistence of extremely kind words and justification of £19k :)

  16. There is a psychological theory that when buyers of some product are offered a range of versions of the item, few of them buy the very dearest or the very cheapest versions on the price list. Nearly everyone chooses to buy the second dearest or the second cheapest.*

So marketers exploit this by deliberately listing a version with a stratospherically high price, not because they expect to sell any but because this makes it far easier to sell the second most expensive version.

If that is the game plan here, Ducati will not worried if nobody buys the PP. In any case, they will only build them if people order them.

    * E.G. On a restaurant wine list, who orders the dearest or the cheapest?

  17. It sounds like a few of us were there today, all flabbergasted by Ducati's cheek with this one.

I liked the look of the KTM 1290GT today and it was getting a lot of attention, BUT when I went back over to the 1200S I think the MTS looks the better bike.

Apparently the KTM won't fit a top box, which is a bit of an off-putter for me.

  18. I always order the dearest but haggle to pay the cheapest [emoji16]

  19. Right happy with my base plus three packs. No regrets with my first ducati. First mutley and last. Not sure what to do about the sport pack I didn't get with it. Prefer the recently advertised akropovic than the termi

  20. image.jpg This is what you will be looking for then
    Decat,cjs tuned,carbon bits,adjustable suspension
Hid lights dip and main and other shiny bits
Would I sell for a new one ,not a hope
I wouldn't even swop it for a new one.......
