  1. Future investment? The classic Ducati over 15 years is already established. Is it not?

  2. Oh and a 1098, 1198. Pani won't be a classic :)

  6. I agree, this for me could be the one, even the desmo had 1500 made didn't it? How many 998r's were sold?

  7. 700?

  8. Wow. That in the uk? Obv the desmo was 1500 total, worldwide

  9. Total worldwide - some say 500 some 700. I think 500 were numbered and 200 not but could be wrong, someone will confirm soon :)
    Only 200 999R Fila's ;-)

  10. Well we are getting there then! For me, the 998r still over a 999r because the 998 is the last of such a long running and iconic shape

  13. I'm sure I'm going to get flamed for this but was it just the 998 engine the race teams wanted? Because they will have junked the fairings, air box, suspension and wheels surely? The 996r had a testastretta so is it as rare for the same reason?

  14. 998R had the lightest wheels of any of the 916 series bikes and also a proper carbon tailpiece.

  15. Rarer I think, with 350 + 150 for race teams etc some of which went to the Aus market - total 500 worldwide, I think 350 numbered. Again someone closer to the 'mark' will confirm...

  16. But the Desmo is unique, there are no other versions, 1500 and that's it. By that I mean the 998R is the pinacle of an evolution of the 748/916/996/998 family and there are loads of them about. The Superleggera sits in the same place in my mind. Only 500 made, very exotic and expensive, but it's a Panigale.

By the way, I'd love to have both a 998R and Superleggera in the garage.

  17. An email to D. Italy would do it

  18. That's a very fair point, I love the 1199sl but I saw a Desmo at the show and there is something truly special about it.

Btw I think 'most collectable' and 'rare' don't go hand in hand, there are plenty of rare bikes like most Bimota's and most u wouldn't want!! Apart from a carb'd vdue of course!

  19. Unique? yes but there are a lot more of them so by the very nature of it they are less collectible.

  20. Or more collectable as there are more to collect :)
