If you insist on shaft drive you're running out of options. The only other adventure style is the Honda Crosstourer. Not a bad bike (you can't fault the build quality) but weighs more than a tank, fairly basic suspension by current standards and its very Honda-ish. Also very good value. I wouldn't have any qualms about KTM finish quality. They're pretty good. My only complaint is quick rust fastners, but they're hardly unique there. I was mildly disappointed by the Triumph when I rode it. As comfortable as the GS but that long stroke 1200 engine feels more like a four than a triple. Its not as instantly torquey as the 1050 though it goes well enough when you wind it up. But the performance is not in the same league as the Multi, the XR or a 1290 KTM (or an 1190 come to that).
You are correct, it does look as though I am running out of options as nothing really makes me want to spend c.£15k plus TBH? But with my now 5 year old, 25k bike leaking oil, suffering the failing dashboard, occasional EXVL failures, temperamental fuel cap and handlebar switches, along with all the previous hassle of failed ecu's and cylinder heads, plus pretty high servicing/maintenance costs, it's starting to slightly irritate and I'm not sure I want to keep it until the planned 2019?
After seeing it in the flesh today I thought the new PP looked okay but I am now sold on an Enduro version of the Multi. Apparently the 1st ones due in March are coming with the touring pack, which I don't want, so I will have to wait till later in the year. How ridiculous is that ?
Thought it looked stunning on the stand today. The carbon screen is a great touch! Can't wait to pick mine up!!
We were at bike show yesterday and looked at PP, if just didn't shout out, I'm the range topper, as some have said does Mr Duacti or VAG think we will fall for a 3k hike for what is a paint job and exhaust, in a standard bike
I've not had any major mechanicals, just lots of irritations and a dreadful quality of finish. KTM for me too next year.
Was on the stand today and agree that the Enduro was the most interesting model for me. The attraction of the 30 litre tank on a long run. Also interesting that they've designed out the need for the crud catcher on the rear wheel.
I went and ordered my PP a few weeks ago.. Bit of an easier decision as it is only 2k more than the S here so looking forward to delivery... Still looking for decat pipes if anyone knows of a supplier I'd be grateful of the info. Just ordering Evo-Tech guards for it. Also will be looking to a Carbon Fibre fabricator to make a tail tidy. Watch this space... Steve
£15750 for the S £19200 for pp You could have brought my brand new March 10 mile dvt for less then either bike, it's a painted pikes peak replica the paint job is far superior to the original its proper lush and even has the same wheel decals and ducati corse decals tbh it's probably better spec'd with touring pack, full termi, every ducati OE carbon extra and some carbonworld carbon total £4k worth, pp screen, billet indicators, res covers, OE spots, full R&G, all silverware powder coated the list is endless and looks stunning. Reason - I've brought a 1290 GT
I like the look of the PP. DVT + quality manually adjustable suspension, what is there not to like. Oh, I forgot, £19,200.
Ktm's are great bikes , engine is great switch gear is shite , but by far the biggest issue I've found is the residual value , truly shocking , which isn't an issue if you are keeping it for a bit I suppose
I lost 4K in 12 months on a 1190 adventure when they were new Only did 8k miles on it , didn't like the big front wheel I was a bit shocked at losing that amount of dosh
