He is a posh jock I live on an elevated piece of land and flooding would have to be biblical to threaten it, many others have been hit very hard which must be devastating. The flood defences in both Carlisle and Keswick were breached despite having millions spent on them not that long ago. This afternoon I cycled out to Pooley Bridge and took these photographs The 18th century bridge the pictures are taken from was reported as being washed away later in the afternoon.
Very sorry about the bridge and floods. Sad. Glad you are OK. Did you say 3 floods in 10 years? This could of course be a coincidence. Question is, how many more floods would be required in what timeframe to convince people that it wasn't? Do you find it disquieting that the climate should suddenly produce 3 floods in a decade or is this in the natural order of things? Maybe severe floods are a normal occurrence in Carlisle.
There's already a thread for that - the 959 with 10 pages of shit about the exhaust. That's the reason why we are discussing Euro 4 on this thread. If it didn't make the exhaust ugly we wouldn't care. And if you're going to discuss Euro 4 you are going to lead to the reasons for it, namely climate change. It's all the fault of the 959. If you want to talk more shit about the 959 exhaust we're not stopping you.
Surely you're a professional forum contributor who's life is blighted by the occasional mechanical jobbie?
I'm having a real problem finding any data to support the idea that a considerable number of scientists don't believe that the current rate of unprecedented climate change is due to mans activities post 1800. I can find enormous support for the fact they the huge majority around the developed world do feel that our activities are responsible to this rapid change. The arguments used sound and look so much like those in the tobacco industry over the years. The facts are that the majority of Western governments accept that climate change is happening due to man. Sadly they are using it to extract more taxes, but Also better designs and efficiencies. Energy production via renewables is a joke in the UK. Without subsidies it would be dead in the water. The elephant in the room is our diet and desire for cheap diary and meat. This has meant that domesticated farm animals has seen an exponential growth. The clearing of forests (recycling CO2 back to good old O2) and this increased bovine digestion has seen Methane production increase massively. This has a massive effect on the greenhouse effect. It is 86 times the GWP of CO2 over a 20 year measurement.
I lived in the country down a lane that flooded it wasn't enough to move out and you could get in and out while the surrounding fields were used for cattle and sheep but.... When it was rented out to a potato farmer who ploughed all the grassland up for potatoes guess what we needed a land rover to get out when the flooded was impassable to the extent I had to move into town The water was up past the headlights There was no longer any grass to or hedgerows or trees (as these had been removed) to take up the excess water In the 35 years it had been in the family this was the worst flooding the lane had seen Luckily the house was elevated due to it being a railway crossing keepers cottage
the first question by the O/P had fk all to do with ducati weather scientists sitting at home in their white coats, it was about euro 4 exhausts , that's why I said its a bike site, me personally talk about bikes not how mant fkin microns are in the clouds , but everyone to their own , bet theres some chemistry sets getting bought this year for xmas, :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::thumbsup::tongue:
Ducati motorcycles are an expensive and passionate brand. As such they are purchased by both passionate and t:he more decerning buyer. Hence the wide ranging and informed discussion on here about the reasons for tighter emmisions. All in line with the OP topic. Other threads are available to discuss shiny exhausts and rose tinited, dark or blinkered glasses.
My concern on subsidies as opposed to research grants is that we see widespread deployment of inefficient generating or power collection plant instead of ground breaking inventions or designs that we could sell to other counties. We need better designs to collect the power or the wind, sea and possibly sun. May be cleaner burning of fuels with carbon sink and or capture. We do after all have huge reserves of coal.
Taxes collected for one thing are rarely if ever ring fenced for another. Just look at the road fund license. Did you know that Wheel chairs, Zimmer frames and walking aids for the partially able all have 20% VAT added? Clearly items requiring a luxury tax.
It wouldn't be so bad if this thread had continued to discuss EURO 4 and the 959 exhaust. Instead, it has descended into an argument about global warming, which as I understand it is not what EURO 4 is about - there is a big difference between "toxic emissions" (Euro 4) and "emissions which might affect the climate" (CO2 in particular - not affected by EURO 4). I very much doubt that motorcycle use (outside third world cities) are a significant contributor to either of these possible problems.
