1299 Backfire On Upshift - New Bike

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Nige, Dec 2, 2015.

  1. Guys,

Managed to get the 1299 out for a 40 mile run today, first time since picking it up. She has the Akros fitted and the chip/map. On up shifting with the quick shifter, there is a backfire most times in all modes.

Took her back into Moto Rapido on the way home and the great guys in the workshop took her straight out, said yes there was a bit of bang on the upshift but more when upshifting sluggishly. Anyway banged it straight on the computer everything was green and then even reset the chips that mattered.

Perhaps I am taking it too easy on the upshift, or being a little to kind as I am treating it like a baby.

    Upshifting at around between 4-6k

I have the green light from the MR guys, anyone else experiencing any sort of bang, boom, on upshifting with their new steed.

probably need to be a little rougher.......

  4. My 899 does it when I load the quick shifter and don't change quick enough, or if I do a series of short shifts it then bangs! It's fine, wouldn't worry about it!

You should ride a Triumph triple! Used to sound like fireworks going off as soon as u shut the throttle!! Awesome

  5. All good to know.......thanks chaps.

Quickshifters and Autobipping downshifting.................witchcraft, pure witchcraft. I fecking love it.

  6. Trouble is, means u are going really silly quick, really silly fast!

  7. My 1199 pops when using the quickshifer when I'm feeling poor and run it on ordinary unleaded. Doesn't do it on super unleaded. Does sound cool though! :Cigar:

  8. It coould be down to the settings of the ign cut times.

  9. Mine tends to do it below 6k in line with what you're experiencing once you're blatting along full gas it becomes less frequent

  10. Thanks for the replies guys, comforting to know it's pretty common, good shout on the ignition cut time. Guess I need to adjust the change lever a little and change a little quicker.

  11. Should hear them at wsbk... Those panigale backfires shaked the ground...Nice B-)

  12. My 1199 only does it when cold, I really look forward to the first few upshifts to hear that gorgeous 'BANG!' as it goes up through the gears :upyeah:

  13. My 899 does this also. Not as much now as when it was new however.

    +1 for sound awesome!

  14. The mechanically sympathies in me mean I don't go anywhere near the quick shifter until I have 5+ miles on the bike and the oil is right up to temperature, lots of torque going through the gearbox and coming from a triumph where the selector had a habit of 'premature failure' due to the quick shifter, I tend to go easy. So I don't see it more when cold, but I do get it lots on lazy shifts and if u kinda hold the revs before shifting (ie not positively on the throttle)

  15. Same here.

  16. My 1299 pops pretty much every time I quickshift up regardless of slow or hard riding. Sounds like an earthquake to a car driver!

Is great until it throws you forward and your nuts slap the tank. Crunch.

  17. Mine pops on upshift, but it's louder on race mode. I went for a ride with my dad. He was tootling along on his bonniville minding his own business when I overtook him. I timed it perfectly upshifted at about 10k the pop from quick shift and the booming exhaust scared the shite out of him. He did say it sounded pretty good!

  18. Miss my popping quick shifter. Don't complain about it, it's awesome [emoji6]

  19. Until you miss a gear then you feel like a right t**t! Lol!.

  20. Anyone else had issues with that stupid launch limiter on 1st gear on the 848's. Caused me many a head slap moment at traffic light Gp's [emoji23]
