899 Best Deals On 899's

  1. HI All
First proper post, so go easy on me
I'm after either an 899 or potentially a new 959.
Now the 899's been superseded by the 959, is there likely to be any good deals about on old stock, or are lots of 899 owners going to jump ship onto the new bike, and prices of 2nd hand 899's likely to drop as more bikes come to market
Also, what's a reasonable price to pay for a new 899 (assuming there's stock hanging about), or are the dealers likely to be throwing in freebies (quite fancy the Termi system)
There's not tonnes of used 899's about, and the going rate seems to be about GBP10.5k for a lower mileage 15 reg bike in red (my preferred colour)
Be interested to hear peoples thoughts

Also, as a side note, having not ridden one yet, but being in love with the looks, noise and reports, what sort of differences can I expect from my current 2013 ZX6-R 636 ? Anyone else made the jump that can compare ?

Cheers in advance for your help

    Graeme

  2. Hello Graeme,

I've just thinking of selling my 899 tonight and decided to come on here and work out what a good price is.

    It's a July 2014 in red
    Aprox mileage is 1,900
    termi cans
    DP carbon exhaust heat shields
    DP light tinted screen
DP front and rear paddock stands
DP fuel filler cap (still in box not fitted)
    seat cowl
    evo tech rad guards
    evo tech tail tidy

any help to guide me on a price would be appreciated. Only used on dry sunny days.. full service history from main dealer etc

  3. Hiya, back in September I couldn't get a new 899 in red, so I bought a used one for £11500 which sounds expensive but it has termi's, it was registered 30th December 14 and had 700 miles on it! Also had all the extras, including rad guards, upgraded foot pegs and ventureshield.

Now, your right that price is nearer the £10500-750 mark. Most dealers that have new ones seem to have white ones, with a few red ones kicking around but none in any dealers within 150 miles of me when I wanted one.

    Best of luck!

  4. Hi Graeme.
I don't think the introduction of the 959 will result in a glut of 899s on the second hand market as the power and styling changes are not that significant. I think most owners of the 899 will move up to an 1199 or 1299 for a noticeable increase in power, and some nice features such as coloured dash, single sided swing arm etc etc.

I have a mint, July 2014 1199 in red, with only 1880 miles advertised in the classified section for £11750 which as you will see from the previously post is not that far off the 899 price, if you are interested drop me a pm.

  5. @graeme4130 look on eThief for ex CSS 899s (they are listing bikes every fortnight or so)
    Going for just over £9k
2015 models with just under 3000 miles
This would be my preferred route if I was after a road bike
    Worth a look...

  6. Not sure I would want to spend £9k of my hard earned cash on a bike that has been hammered round a track by numerous riders for 3000 miles. You can spot the ex California Superbike School bikes 899s and 1299s as they have full r+g tank and engine protector kits fitted. (wonder why they need them ???)

  7. Only 3000 miles
    Probably well serviced too...
Probably not thrashed - not many riders could - CSS is more about learning; not thrashing
Standard bikes - not over tuned - so not going over design limits
just doing what they were designed to do

  8. Mine was 10700 new in July 2015. Termi's were swapped from my written off 1199 so technically free lol

  9. I got mine in september I think.

I struggled to find one then, it was a stroke of luck that Laguna had just received a delivery of one white and one red.

    I got in quick lol!

  10. Is that still a realistic price for a new one now, assuming there's some stock still about ?
Seems low considering 2nd hand values ?

  11. I think it's low, I can't imagine dealers will go that low until they have unallocated stock of 959's and need to shift the 899's I could be wrong though

  12. No idea, try ringing around a few dealers and see what they can offer. I might add that i always have no px, and pay straight away by card. Another thing is to buy usually towards the end of a month when numbers count rather than profit.

  13. I've emailed a few today, but as there's so many and most seem to be independent, it's gonna take a while to track down any stock
I've mailed Ducati uk to see if they know of any, as if they're like Audi, they have a database of available stock

  14. Email enquiries in the motor trade aren't taken seriously.

Pick up the phone or get down to a couple of dealers in person. Trust me on this but the true best deals are done face to face.

  15. I don't think many punters have got close to you on this discount, it's got to be one of the cheapest new buys out there?

  16. I was offered one at £10900 from a dealer down south too. This was prior to the 959 exhaust situation though.

Have you got the funds ready to buy? So if someone said a agreeable price would you buy it there and then?

  17. I could buy it outright at a push, but I'd want to px my ZXR preferably, as another bike turning up without one going would not fly under the wife's radar, whereas a swap from a white bike to a red bike could just about be hidden ;)

  18. A few things, close to the end of the month is indeed a better time, your more likely to get a desperate salesman,

    2) all Ducati dealers can check stock centrally and allocate one that's in another dealer, it's just sometimes they argue about loosing a showroom model or maybe it has a scratch on etc.

    3) gone are the days of getting much money off for a straight cash purchase, they want u to take HP because they get the commission, oh and gap insurance etc, get the commission on it all.. Not much but definitely worth them doing!

  19. You see that's the difference between getting a decent deal , and a great deal. Px is hassle unless it's prime stock for them. I sell my old bike myself and then start my shopping about.

I usually call a few places , leave my number and tell them I can pay in full today if we can agree a figure. I'm never in a rush and can wait for the right deal. Timing is crucial as I bought my 848 as the evo was released. My 1199 as the 1299 was approaching and 899 before the 959.

  20. I also must point out I'm 14 years motor trade so know what to say to make them take interest. Plus they know I know what the crack is. Too many people read too many parkers guides on how to get a deal and it's completely wrong lol
