I've spotted a lot of 899 recently, and half of them are with Termi cans, starting from around 9,500 onwards. Not sure why there's so many used for sale though. Could drop in price if it increases :/
If a standard 899 was say 11k and a 959 was 12.k I would be buying the 899 as I hate the exhausts and wouldn't spend 3k on a system to make it right. Anyone who spends 12.5 plus 3k might as well buy a 1299 with free akro. 899 will stay strong for a while longer yet. Unless Ducati start giving away full systems on 959.
They were really popular mate, think 800 registered in the uk at the mo (that's actually on the road and taxed) which is more than all models of the 848 put together. Honestly I wouldn't let yourself get sucked into it, I paid £11500 for a basically brand new bike 3 months ago, from a dealer the same bike is probably 10k now (although mine was literally crate fresh and the best spec I could find) but I don't for a second regret not waiting... I bought a 848 Evo in 2013 for £11250 when the 899 was about to come out, sold it a year later for £7000..... Now THAT I regret :-s the bottom fell out of them, and actually if anything it's recovering a touch now for 848 because they are the 'traditional' and some prefer them (mental people)
My 899 is the only bike I've ever fallen in love with truly. People who know me are really surprised that a bike has taken me like this, because I've ridden so many and this is so rarely the case. I love the thing, and can't see me getting rid of it for some time! I really doubt you will notice any real differences on the 959 unless you are a mustard track rider. Just my opinion of course.
Not convinced - not difficult to really hammer a bike like an 899 round a track like Silverstone and they do not fit them with track bodywork just for fun - very few of them will not have been crashed at some point in those 3000 miles. Can be a good deal if they are cheap enough but now they have been returned to standard trim I suspect the history will be hidden when the next owner (or dealer) sells them on.
Also my mate bought a ex Ron Hallam school cbr600, looked okay with its brand new factory panels on but the frame had at least 3-4 nasty dinks in it, and the axle bolts and swingarm etc were scratched from stand use and wheel changes. And that also came with the 'looked after by Honda' tag, I would spend the extra grand and get one that has been loved
Cheers for all your help guys Given there's been such a spread of what you guys have paid new for your 899's, what would suggest is a good price for a new one if I can locate one ?
I found a brand new bike advertised on Autotrader ; http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...efault&quicksearch=true&radius=1501&logcode=p Seems quite expensive
First of all I would remove your Swindon based postcode from the search link. You never know who's looking for a nice new bike to steal. Secondly , yes it looks expensive initially but there is always wiggle room I'd imagine. Balance to swap is the important figure in your case having a px. Give them a call , be friendly and see where it goes. Almost like a date I suppose. Only at the end of this you may end up with a ride
That's a good point re postcode, but having been an avid user of Autotrader for far too long, that's actually a postcode from a house I've not lived in for several years, luckily Point taken though I'll give them a ring and see if I can pop and see them, as I much prefer to deal with these things face to face
Try to get termi cans included. They cost you a lot more than it costs a dealer. This adds value for you more than money off if you plan to add them anyway. 12k inc cans would be my aim on that bike.
I paid 10k exactly for mine from Seastar Superbikes in November. No termi’s, 400 miles otc. Couple of extras like screen and tail tidy. It was (and still is) mint.
Unlucky, I enquired about it a couple of weeks ago and they offered me it for £11k cash with no trade in. Didn't think they'd hang on to it for long as there is a demand for 899s since the 959 was revealed. Ducati Glasgow were telling me last week that they had just sold their last 3 new ones at full price.
Honestly I think what's driving the 899 demand is not the 959 but the fact they have been in 'constraint' for months, dealers have been getting dribs and drabs and I guess that means that if one pops up its normally got multiple enquirers. When I bought mine in September there were 4 to choose from, all lightly used, two were standard but 15 plate ex demo's under 400 miles on them, and 2 with termi's. All 4 were the same price so I had the pick! But when I went back a week later to drop off the standard bits for the Daytona he had sold them and 2 more and said they were having a particularly busy time because new stock wasn't coming through
A few phone calls around, and a quick trip to Wales today, and deal's been done on a 14 plate bike They're picking my zx6r up and dropping off 899 next week Cheers for everyone's help and I'll get some pics up when it arrives
It's going to be a rubbish time of year to learn a new bike, but hey-Ho, it's Christmas, so I'll consider it a gift to myself
