I am a motorcycle courier and this week the charging system started to fade on my 2001 VFR800. So I thought I might buy a genuine Stator and regulator. Rang up David Silver usually the cheapest for a quote . The answer wait for it , £440 and £514 inc. VAT. A rewind from Westcountry windings is £123 . She said she will get a delivery date for me and I told her not to bother as I will not ever pay that for a bike that cost me £800 . Biggest rip-off yet ?
Guess you've already looked but you can get a new one from wemoto for £80 or a bit more for a better quality one which are probably better than the original anyhow. Surprised me coming from a Honda to a Ducati that Hondas parts prices are actually more expensive than the Italians!
I've tried Westcountry Windings in the past and they were ok but don't last. The mileage that I do will break it within a year. I will try Wemotos its just that hondas charging systems are crap and I want my heated luxury items this winter.
Why dont you get yourself an uprated rectifier while you're at it and perhaps do some wiring then you have a complete new system.
Yep new rectifier and gonna try a mod where the earths from the rectifier go straight to the battery. Supposed to be a permanent cure. will fit a volt meter to monitor the mod.
The prices for Honda car spares can be eye-watering too. The service items aren't bad (e.g. brake pads, discs, filters) but crash damage or unexpected mechanical failures out of warranty can be very expensive - how about £5K for a diesel cylinder head assembly, or £400 for a headlight. I've often worried that dealers could "just make up" some prices, but for Honda you can get quite a lot of good online parts detail and pricing from specialists like Lings or Cox, both of which have good websites.
I was thinking of buying a CRV might not now. I think it's a economic theory charge what the market will bear. I think they have gone to far. In the UK we are used to getting ripped off. In the US consumers get subsidised prices because they expect them.
