Love the video - not sure I quite agree with Alastair Fagan's comments of looking beyond the aesthetics though..... I think that the Baron was desperate to say that he fucking hated the look of the new exhausts! Great video... apparently more Baron vlogs coming next year!
Good review indeed, very watchable like all their videos really. Fagan is right that people should look beyond the exhaust, but this is a chap who races in the 899 Tri-Options cup and is very focused on how fast these things go round a race track. The motivation for many 'normal' Ducati buying blokes/gals is the way it looks and because it is a Ducati. I will never make the most out of my 1199 and to be honest the bike could ride like a bag of shite (or have a cock and syphilis :smirk and I'd still have bought it because I'm shallow and I wanted a sexy red Ducati parked in my garage. I'm not saying the 959 won't sell, it probably will, but for a brand like Ducati that has always prided itself and built its reputation on churning out sexy looking and sounding bikes, that exhaust is a fuck up. A fixable (and Euro 4 forced) fuck up but one none the less! But yeah, good and funny review!
Great review. Loving these guys work so far with 44T. They really 'bounce' off of each other well, and seem like genuine, enthusiastic nice blokes. Good information and light hearted/good humour. I've subscribed.
I really like 44 teeth, the photography on their site is simply stunning, it really is!!! I actually really like the way the site is built. However for me this review was a little 'waffle' they sort of jumped around a bit and stumbled on some of the spec bits, like power to weight etc.
A fair amount of the photography is by Baron himself, e.g. the R1M, you can see him taking this in the middle of the night on youtube.
Amen! I agree. For a non expert rider like myself who will never exploit the full potential of most bikes and some may say I have more money than sense when bike buying (but I don't care what they think) my list of preferences when buying a bike are: 1. Looks 2. Noise 3. Handling 4. Performance 5. Running costs And I'm sure this makes me part of quite a significant percentage of owners. This is why I think the 959 won't do very well because for a lot of people it falls at the first hurdle. I'm not going to buy a 959 then spend another 4k having the full system with the belly cans fitted when I can just go and buy a 1299 for the same money. I will also look far cooler on the bigger bike!
But some won't buy the big one out of principle, me for example, I hate short shifting and not feeling like I'm able to scratch the surface of what it's capable of. I think they portrayed each side of the opinion really well
Sorry I didn't mean to sound like I was poo pooing the smaller bikes. The 899 is a great bike in its own right. The point I'm trying to make is the 959 sits uncomfortably in between the 899 and 1199 and more so now the 1299 from a financial point of view. I think I'm safe to say most don't like the new exhaust arrangement. So to correct that more money needs to be spent which brings the price of a 959 up to that of a 1299. So would you really buy a 959 instead of the 1299 if they were similar money, unless you don't mind the new exhausts?.
I agree completely, it's why I went for a lightly used 899, the 899 started at £12,400 within two years it was nearly £13k and now it's over £13k and the euro isn't particularly week/strong so I'm struggling to see why the prices keep going up! I suppose the 1299 is £17k so the gap is the same. Maybe they are trying to open up the sub 959 market for a 659 panigale? Although it would be really expensive
I found it boring I do like BVG but not a fan of 44 teeth so far, it would be good to see a road test and without supersoft tyres
It felt very much like ducati advertising. Trying to find the good in the 959 is too painful. We are all materialistic and we love ducati because of the designs not just the power. If I wanted the fastest thing on two wheels or the best handling bike I would have looked else where. Just sayin....
Looks come first when I'm looking for a new bike not 2mm on a spring and who's going to spend £3500 on an exhaust to make the bike look how the manufacturer want it to look in the first place
I think all these vlogs have become about promoting product before an unbiased view. They survive on advertising alone and manufacturers have seen an easy and basically free way to promote their product.
