1198 Ceramic Coated Exhaust

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Spareparts, Dec 12, 2015.

  1. I am considering getting the 70mm system ceramic coated this winter in metallic black. Has anyone done this to their red 1x98 and have gold wheels? I'm looking for pics and experiences of those who have. I don't want the pipes polished because the polished silver clashes with the gold wheels. But a black exhaust should look good...

Looking at using either Camcoat (racespec smooth black) or Zircotec's Metallic Black.

  2. I'm having my system (pipes only) done just now by camcoat. There is a big price difference between the two for what is the same thing.

Gone for the ceramkrome finish with a light polish to try and keep it as close to the standard stainless as possible. Trying to avoid the super shinny finish. Should have some pictures of them soon. My bike will have gold wheels as part of the build I'm doing, but not the black pipes.

  3. Look forward to seeing the pics of the ceramkrome finish against the gold wheels as that is also an option I was thinking about

I am still in 2 minds about getting them coated at all, because I think the burnished gold look that the pipes have taken on actually match the wheels nicely!

  4. From what i gather from previous ducati posters, once its done (although white finish will yellow) all you need to do is blast the exhaust with a jet-wash & its back to whatever colour ceramic coating you've chosen. I'm absolutely going to go down this route when I have mullah for my multi-enduro.

Zircotec - Plasma sprayed ceramic thermal coatings

There are a few companies about & I'd love to know the price of both of your's or anyone who replies.

  5. Gold wheels say a lot too.

  6. Guys...got a 70mm system on my R...what is it made of?
I ask because it is very blue/rainbow colour on the vertical head pipe and all the way along the horizontal head pipe. Is it titanium? My other bikes don't exhibit this very blue colour.

  7. Sounds like you have a Ti system. Is it a Termi or Akra system. Teri did do a Ti system, but not for the road. Race only as far as I know.

The system I have is a Termi 70mm stainless. There is bluing at the headers, but not anywhere else to the extent you mention.

  8. Could be a Leo one too.

  9. It's a Termignoni system. Looks very much like your one. I will take a good look tomorrow in the light to check.
    Thanks.

  10. Certainly for myself, looks are part of it. You must be concerned about looks too or you'd ride some rice rocket...?

Only benefits I really see are reduced temps (ideal for me as I do track days at 40C) and ride occasionally in traffic at that temp, and also appearance. Brown pipes are shit, pure and simple.

I've heard of supposed power gains, but really - are they going to be that significant? Using a larger radiator to cool the system and gaining power I get, but is there enough suction in the inlet end from the increased exhaust gas pressure... ala turbo...?

  11. Mr R, yes I am doing this because I am looking at improving the aesthetics. I am fully aware of the performance aspects of ceramic coating, and there are 'performance' gains to be had by using one of the Zircotec finishes - namely, thermal insulation which also keeps radiant heat down. I've seen the Zircotec finishes first hand, and think they are aesthetically superior to the Camcoat finishes. Camcoat are not the only game in town...

In terms of aesthetics, it's nice to have a bike that is aesthetically spot on. I have little need to improve the performance of my bike beyond the already extensive performance improvements it has had.

What do they say, grandpa? Curious to know what you think because the gold wheels were the original wheels as supplied by Ducati on my 1098R.

  12. image.jpg Not as blue as I recollected...probably stainless road system then?

  13. Yeah, looks the same as mine.

Proper loud and great improvement on performance - even if it does cook the crown jewels...!!

  14. I know, who would ever put gold wheels on a Ducati. They look pish, especially on those red racing type things... Just pulling yer chain ;-)

  15. I do like that scheme too. We all have our own little favorites which make biking and all those who surround it great.

  16. Do you have the results of the before and after you can post up to prove your claim?
I'd be interested as to whether the extra 0.2hp is going to be useful when mine already runs 194rwhp without the ceramic.

  17. Got my exhaust back from the polishers a few weeks back - fitted the headers today with surprisingly little swearing involved.

Very pleased with the job - 60 quid including springs, clamps and silencer ends.

  18. headers are a doddle to put on. That mid-section is a bit more "interesting"

    Enjoy - pipes look great.

  19. I put the whole lot on (as shown in the "after" photo) in one go.
From previous experience on my 749R 57mm system, I knew it is a complete bastard of a job to put the mid section on once the headers are on.
