As a fast road bike only, R1mmer has little appeal. 1299 has more torque for road use, and in the metal a far prettier and better finished bike. RSV4RF is an amazing ride because of the chassis and V4, but it doesn't seem that special after a rideout and side by side with a Duc. Or save 10k and get a Blade or GSXR for simple but far more ergonomic kicks in the road - Both still amazing road bikes.
Many manufactures would keep stum, and only fix the ones that went, or maybe offer some good will! I've owned Porsches....Never again!
what is a mechanic other than a fitter?. is anyone willing to pay a workshop X amount an hour to repair/overhaul a part when quite often the new part would work out cheaper?
We had a similar conversation about circuit boards in another thread. I frequently change integrated circuits, resistors, transistors, MOSFETs and other components on circuit boards. I'm finding it harder to obtain circuit diagrams, which makes board level investigation near impossible, due to widespread use of multi layered PCBs. New power controller board £750 or 1~2 hours of my time and £10's worthof bits? If its a £50 circuit board then I just spend a minute or so having a probe around. Horses for courses Yours An Engineer....not a fitter or technician.
yip,me gimmi a functional description, wiring diagram, and location diagram an unlimited budget and i will sort it. customer, just replace it will ya if it's cheaper. yours a shoulder to cry on, punch bag, social worker, a juggler of finances and mechanic/technician
Dude...I didn't mean to demean anyone...just saying if it is an expensive part and you have the means, then repair may be an economically viable option... ......who'd of thought it...a sensitive Scot.:Hilarious::Hilarious::Hilarious::Bag:
yip. i can see how it looked that way. :Sorry::smileys: i here it all the time. look at it this way. you fix something. 9 months latter it goes again with another fault the customer is back at you all pumped looking for a freeby, you try and explain they call you a knob. what tools do you kneed to check a pcb? magnifying glass, beckman, soldering iron and a logic prob. what do you keep to over hall all the parts garages get criticized for replacing? one example most alfas 4-6 hrs to replace an alternator imagine replacing that again for free because the customer dident want to renew, just change a regulator or bearing, at least when your replacing the manufacturer will swap and pay you something to fit albeit a token gesture of £25ph on a book time.
I offer no warranty on either the repair nor the parts....normally its only £100. I explain that replacing the very expensive part will result in both a labour and parts warranty of 12~36 months. I just give them the option. To be fair we can replace any part within a few hours unless its a huge installation. Also it depends on the client and the value of the plant (or car in your case).
deffo. i quote examples from my experience in other workshops. would i be blowing my own trumpet if i said it doesn't happen in my place for the very reason you mention.
off topic again thanks , why don't we just close the site down and open up a scientists forum, ffs where bikers, or meant to be, :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::kissingheart::kissingheart::kissingheart::kissingheart:
a have noticed , theres a saying if you cant beat em join em so a may become a scientist as well is it hard ???
I'd been trying for some time now to work out whether my next bike will be a Pani or an R1, having boiled my choices down to one of these two. I've been checking the Pani thread for ages now, to see if someone had already raised this subject and - who knew? Here's this thread! Too late, mind. Having not been able to find a comparison thread, I've decided on the R1. Damn!
