1299 Can't Decide Which Bike

  2. Have to admit I agree in some senses with this. I considered swapping my 1199S for a 1299 but decided to keep it and bought a 1098S with what I would have had to put to for the new bike. Call me greedy but I now have two fantastic bikes and the best of both worlds and I don't regret not buying the new bike one bit. And if the exhaust carbuncle is here to stay the older bikes may become more sought after.

  3. Personally I wouldn't tie up £17k in a car or bike - money is cheap currently so PCP is worthy of further consideration?

    If this option appeals go new 1299s and enjoy a new bike & the depreciation worry is also reduced - change again and upgrade in 2-3 years for the latest model. Bike remains in warranty and you're only paying for the use of the bike

    It also negates the worry over the registration plate.

  4. What happens if you bin the bike on PCP and it becomes a CAT C/D and the final value is significantly reduced?
     
  5. Just ride the 899 1199 and the 1299, buy the one you prefer, in the newest best spec you can afford. You will enjoy all of them :upyeah:
     
  6. GAP insurance (return to invoice cover) will offer protection against a total loss / write off, however a CAT C/D situation would mean you'd suffer any shortfall on the residual value (assuming you opted for the hand back choice).

    In the event of a PX valuation it could mean a negative equity situation but you would have a diminished value anyway as a cash buyer so there are risks attached. It would depend on the deal at the time..

  7. Surely you would have been paid out for a write off by your insurers?

If the bike was completely totalled beyond repair the insurers would write it off and pay out for the whole bike, but if for instance you had a slow speed low side and did just a few grands worth of damage they would pay out to have it repaired, however the bike would still be subject to an insurance claim for damage which would make it a CAT C/D accident damaged repaired. This would lower the bikes second hand value as some people wouldn't entertain a bike that had been involved in any sort of accident.
     
  9. If a bikes repaired by a insurance it has no category attached to it. If it's written off , paid out and then purchased back by the rider cheap from the insurance then it would be cat b/c/d.

  10. I was going to suggest this to scratch your Ducati itch, as you may hate them. 848, 1098 or 1198.

  12. I used to be indecisive, but I'm not quite sure now....

    I bought my last 'brand new' bike in 1982 and swore 'never again', I hated giving the taxman the money! And then the dealer I got it from tried to seriously stitch me up when I wanted to trade in for something bigger! That, as I say, was a long time ago and PCP had not been invented.

    You are lucky with the choices you have and I would, in your position, seriously consider the 'classic' option rather than new, BUT it's your money.

  13. Ha! No. I'm only allowed to keep the 1199 in the house because it doesn't smell and it's not incontinent. But it's because I think so much of the silver SS I felt sorry for her all alone out in the cold garage so I had to buy the 1098 to keep her company - because I'm thoughtful like that!. I hoping they might start breeding!:D

  16. Sorry but that isn't true. If a bike is a Cat c or d its write off and the owner would be paid out in full for the value of the bike and it would no longer be your bike.
     
  17. Not totally made my mind up, but I am leaning more towards a 1299S, I am also considering an XDiavel because my body aches a lot more than it used to, and I really liked the looks of them when I saw them at the bike show.

    As for the plate bothering me it only bothers me in a financial sense. An example, I ordered a new car for the wife and the dealer wanted us to have it in February, my reply was I will wait until March because if I didn't it would only be a new car for a month, and when the new reg comes out the value would drop on the month old car. It is the value, not the plate that bothers me, I have two very good plates sitting on retention if I was bothered about the plate.

    I have like most people lost a small fortune over the years on cars so now I try and buy more wisely. Instead of running a fancy sports car I now have a little run about and a Lancia Delta Integrale Evo 2 that sits in the garage appreciating in value.
     
  18. The difference in value between a 15 plate and a 65 plate is negligible. In fact there likely isn't any difference.

    You'd suffer more value loss by adding above average mileage.

    Both plates will be a 2015 bike so honestly I cannot see any future buyers caring.

    I just bought a base 1299 with akras on PCP. I like the fact that I'll get another new bike in 3 years and the monthly payment is so low that I don't even feel it leave my account. My sky TV package is only £60 less than the bike payment which I found quite amusing.
     
  19. I tried every new thou this year expect the R1 as none were available, plus the mess that is the area of the right hand rear set put me off! But I digress. Went with a 1299s as it just felt more right than the RSV. Ibought an ex demo, With 675 miles on the clock for a couple of grand less than list price. The last ex demo they got rid of had a few more miles on it for about a grand less than mine! I don't know where you live but Riders at Bridgewater do accompanied test rides of about 30 mins. The bikes don't get thrashed because you don't get the opportunity to! A good option in my eyes.
