  1. Hi gent's

looking for some advice, I'm looking to buy one of the above bikes but cant find many comparisons.
A few questions as I wont get to test ride any of them due to distance.
Will the 1000 be that much more powerful?
    Is the 800 gutless?
In day to day riding would I notice any real difference?
I Haven't been able to locate any speed test comparisons to show this.

I expect some of you have had both and maybe still do so your help would be greatly appreciated.
I've had numerous dukes over the years but feel its time to go monster due to me age lol and me special needs son always wants to be on the back and I don't feel comfortable with him on the likes of the 996 or 848 anymore. I never rode these to there ability any rate as he's nearly always with me. Only on the odd occasion did I get to rip it.

  2. Hi, both very nice but I`d take the bigger engine every time. It will be a little less smooth at low revs but I love torque and while I have not bothered to read what the actual comparison figures are, having done thousands of miles on both engines I know that on the road the 1000cc engine feels like it has loads more. If you only ride the 800 you wont be disappointed as it is lovely and the above is only my opinion based on what I like. Its worth trying them both though if you can as it is your opinion that counts, not mine.

  3. I'm looking at a nice s2r 1000 with 12000m and lots of extras plus original parts. £3900. your thoughts

  4. Looks very nice, I`d certainly consider it if I was after one at the moment. I`ve seen the other thread where you are not sure about going for 2 valve aircooled or a 4 valve watercooled. I would take the s2 as I much prefer the looks and the characteristics. Not saying its better of course as plenty will prefer the extra power of the s4 but the aircooled engine just seems right for a monster.

  5. I rode my m8s 900ss the other day and found that very tractor ish!! Not sure if this would feel similiar ?

  6. The 1000 engine is a little smoother but similar , you certainly would not say it is smooth like an IL4. How did you enjoy the tractor experience ? It may be a case of (shire) horses for courses but that lumpy feel is exactly what I like most about air cooled Ducatis and it does really grow on you.

  7. Well ive had a few dukes si know what there luke. It just felt a lot different to the likes of av916,748, 848 and 996 ?
Not sure if its just because if the lower bhp or that its the aircooled side of things?

  8. I agree that they feel quite different. You are lucky to be looking at a Monster so you can choose whichever you prefer. Sounds like the 2 valve may be more agricultural than you would like.

  9. it looks a gem though

  10. the s2r 800 is a great all rounder, the 800 makes a brilliant daily runner /weekend hoon bike and is great fun. but if you have ridden the bigger superbikes you will be unserwhelmed.
many s2r800 owners end up putting better brake caller and rotors and sometime forks too as this is where ducati saved money to et the price down

the s2r1000 (and s4r) got 748/916 spec brakes and adjustable forks from the factory
s2r800 had a wet APTC slipper clutch, 1000 and s4r had dry clutch
apart from that the they are the same chassis

the 996 s4r and 998 engine s4rt/s are same chassis at the s2r 800/1000 but are much heavier and have lots of plumbing which either you like or you don't (i don't)
the 4 valve water cooled engines cost more to service too

the s2r 1000 is a v nice looking bike imho, if you like old shape monster with single sider and stacked exhaust design this is the one to go for

. the DS1000 air cooled engine is a big step up over the 900, try one, lots of tourque available pretty much everywhere and it just keeps pulling and pulling. I'm not bored of riding mine on the road and i have been riding 998/1098 on track for a fair few years now

  11. Thats some nice advice thankyou

I completely agree with the above and providing the one for sale is as good as it looks on the link, go for it. I`m looking to change one of my bikes next year and that is exactly the type of bike I`d consider, just a few months early for me to do it now.
