999 Running A Track Bike

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by cookster, Dec 17, 2015.

  1. anyone here run a 999 track bike?? if so what they like?? ive never ridden a 999.

  2. Me neither. I suspect that they are like a 999, but on a track.

Got a 749r track bike, but that's not a 999 so cannot answer your general query. Can you be more specific and then I may be able to assist with issues that may be common to the 749/999.

  5. No lights, race loom. It's been very reliable so far.

  6. Hi sorry to hijack the post, i have recently purchased a 749 track bike just wondering if there are any problems you have come across or anything i need to do to the bike.before i take it on track pretty well sorted track bike but.gona strip it down and do belts etc before i ride just wondering if theres anything i should look for when i strip it. Many thanks

  7. look for a 1198 motor to put in it.

  8. ha yeah could do mate, dont think ive seen a 999/1198 bike.

  9. I've been running a 749 for 7 years.
Only problems I've had are front coil multi plug connection failed causing an intermittent misfire. And last year the main bearings finally cried enough. Hence I'm now building a new 924 motor.
To ride one one track I can honestly say. It's fantastic!
I found the std forks were way too stiff. A good option is to fit 1098 Showa's and radial calipers. This transformed my bikes front end feel and grip.
It's taken me a while to get it the be stable and still turn in nicely. But now I have a cracking little bike which gives the litre race rep Heroes a bloody hard time.

  10. cool any one seen that 999 on ebay looks like a cracking bit of kit. now to find 6k.

  11. Nice looking bit of kit seems A bit dear for a race/track bike though

  12. Yeah looks a decent buy, all the right bits & the motors had a good tickle :upyeah:

  13. I thought it would have the later swingarm for an 05 999s

  14. I agree...too pricey but otherwise looks pretty sorted.

  15. Or put a 999s motor in 748 frame its what im running and to be honest im loving it. It cant keep up with the modern day litre missiles in a straight line but in the corners she holds a line brilliantly. The biggest thing for me though whenever I get on track is the grin factor second to none.

  16. That'll be a 998 then

  17. Shouldn't a 2005 999s have radial front brake calipers ? This one appears not to. Andy

  18. Think it was just the R's that had radial brakes.

  19. Looks good. But for that loot I think I'd hold out for a 1098 trackbike...Unless you really like the 'look' :tonguewink:

  20. Parts list for the later S shows radial brakes. Not famliar enough for the 999 family to be sure though. Andy
