Dropped me 749 at junction - pulling out cold, stalled and over we go. Pissed off, but I guess not a total disaster. Rhs DP mirror slightly scuffed, as is R&G. Footpeg slightly pushed in. Couple of very minor (tiny really) marks on rear hump. Thoughts / assistance please: Is it possible to use fine wet and dry paper in the mirror to improve it? Supplier of Ducati gloss black touch up / needle paint pen? (once dabbled, these should be virtually unnoticeable). How to straighten the very very slight pushing in of the rh foot peg - muscle it, or take it to my usual bike man and get him to do it, so as I don't make an arse of it? Cheers any help.
Had a very similar drop on day 4 at Cartagena and did the foot rest. Have to say I preferred my local mechanic to do the repair. Having had a recent conversation I do know the original 749/999 wing mirrors are still stocked by dealers. How did your bar end fair ? I managed to bend the clip on. It's a bummer I know but at least it's cosmetic and you are not hurt. Andy
Thanks for responses Andy. Bar end untouched. Mirror fine other than small scuffs so that's ok. Will try post pics - even the paint bit is very minor. Agree use someone that can regarding the foot peg. Appears to have put a ding in the exhaust pipe behind the heat shield -new cf one from Santa sorts that. So really I guess I got off almost free?
Not too worried by the r&g - guess could always buy new one if my mechanic says it's bent, but any ideas 're sanding the mirror (which was almost this bad prior to todays drop anyway), just to smooth it off a little? Thanks again, Andrew.
Doc what sort of man are you? Why didn't you fling yourself under the bike to save damage ? In all seriousness you got off light. A car body repair man should be able to sort out any paint or mirror damage. Could have been much worse.

Hi Andrew, Re the mirror I would try rubbing down the damaged area with wet n dry first with 1200 grade then 1500 and finally 2000. Don't go too deep/mad just lightly then try and polish it out with Halfords cutting compound then either T cut or Solvol Autosol. The tail piece damage you could try a firm like "Chips away" they do a great job for not much money. Hope this helps. Regards, Faz.

My next door neighbour is a car body repair business owner, he mixes me up a match for any of my bikes and then using a modellers paint brush touches in. It's hard to see where he touches. Re mirror is it a paint finish ?
Hi again. Re the paint, that sort of thing sounds fine. I'm sure that with care I could do it myself - is really very small. The mirror casing is just plain black plastic - poss more of a pia than paint? Thx, Andrew.
Hi again Andrew, If the mirror is like my Multi (2005. 620cc) the finish is satin black and if it is all you need to do is take it off clean it with soapy water then rinse well with cold water mask it off and spray it with Halfords satin black. If you paint both mirrors job done. I build radio controlled model tugs and have to touch in bits all the time so you develop a technique, you could also touch it in by brush (The Range sell sable brushes quite reasonable price) using a modellers satin paint such as Humbrol or Revell. If you choose to brush paint the mirror experiment on a piece of plastic say drink bottle or something and lay the paint on thinly criss crossing the area then lining it out in one direction. For the footpeg take the hanger off and screw in a long bolt in one of the threads and either use a hammer to tap the bolt in the direction to straighten, then repeat on the thread. The longer the bolt the easier obviously.
Bike booked in / being picked up 2nd week of January. Decided to get it properly sorted as intend on keeping it. All should hopefully be well. Thought I'd post up me 1mph "injuries" - think I may have damaged me hamstring trying to pick the bike up!
Gutted! - But don't beat yourself up about it! We have all done it or will do it at least once in our riding career? I pulled into a petrol station over 35 years ago on my 3 day old Laverda Mirage and in front of a coach load of girls (distracted!) parked my pride and joy at pump 1 and thought I had sidestand down! But I didn't and I couldn't hold onto it cos it weighed more than a car!Did a bit of damage to clutch lever,mirror etc but a lot more to my ego!!!
