1200 DVT Dvt Power Only 152.32 Hp By Epa Test

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by costis, Dec 21, 2015.

  1. EPA tested power (among other things) for motorcycles imported in the US, and the figure for the DVT is only 152.32 HP (given in KW 112). Diavel tested 155.04 HP, and the 1299 Panigale 197,2 HP.
So much for the advertised 160 HP...
Actually 150 HP is fine, but why bullshit Multi buyers?
BMWs competitor bike S1000XR, came up with 160.48 HP.
    check at:

  2. Is this at the back wheel?

  3. No it is at the crank. Various magazines tested power at the wheel. They came up with 133 to 137 HP. Approx 10% loses.

  4. For a road bike who cares ?

There is power aplenty and it is midrange that determines rideability.

  5. What was the ambient temperature and the humidity and air pressure during their test? These things can dramatically change indicated power outputs.

  6. I agree. But why the hell should they advertise 160 HP?

  7. Don't try to race against a BMW s1000XR since it is 1 sec faster in 0-400m and more than 2 sec in 0-1000 m. And both claim 160 HP.

  8. Just look at the gearing difference between the two, of course its going to accelerate harder but I know which one I would rather be on when having to cover large distances.
I find high geared / high revving in line 4's tiresome in such instances
Put the same gearing on the Ducati and then see how it goes.

  9. If it was all about performance then i would be buying a Panigale anyway

  10. I thought it was well known the claimed 160bhp is bull shit months ago !?
My Dvt has more than enough on tap, I'm over the moon with mine : )

  11. 0-400m is not a power measurement, bhp is. I wonder who ever tries to do 0-400m in the fastest time in normal road riding. If one bike is 1 second faster then were they both measured on the same day at the same temperature on the same track?

  12. I've gone -1 on my front sprocket and I struggle to keep the front down in 2nd.

It has enough power for me :)

  13. Ducati should claim "enough" power instead of the promised 160horses...or maybe 160donkeys?

  14. Perhaps they should claim "up to 160 bhp" that would make them just like all the ISPs and we are all happy with them. :)

  15. If it's a controlled test it's at minimum interesting that out of the three manufacturers claiming 160hp for the S1000XR, Super Adventure and DVT, both BMW and KTM hit 160 whereas Ducati achieve 152.

  16. I know my bike has more power than I can really use, but is this not under trade descriptions?
I bought a bike sold as 160bhp, and it's not!
Now, that could be a good argument if you got a lemon for a refund? If you are so inclined.

  17. There's no such thing as an accurate manufacturer HP claim, and BMW is known as the worst offender in bogus HP claims

  18. From snippets I've read TaskMule, it's different bodies that have also come up with similar figures ?

  19. I don't think they should be allowed to mis-sell on these figures, but I stopped worrying about this sort of thing years ago. It's just pub talk BS for road bikes.

  20. Yes i Agree with you, Was expecting a cracker As i moved from KTM1190 Adventure ,Can we reach the target of 160 By using Rexxer Mapping & losing weight of the bike by 10kg ?
