Trailer

  1. Morning

Thinking of investing in a trailer for track days. Will only be for one sports bike. However, would like to get one that takes 2 bikes as will be starting trials/MX with me lad in a year or 2 so thinking I may get a double bike trailer. Also, a double may be useful occasionally for others.

Question is, if I buy a 2 bike trailer and put a sports bike on one side are they unstable and/or do they tow funny due to weight dispersal?

I'd love a van but with tax/insurance/MOT it won't happen as need a family car.

Anything to look out for with trailer buying?

  2. I have used a 2 bike Trailer Tek trailer for several years and have never had a stability issue towing with a single bike. The added versatility of the 2 bike trailer when you only take 1 bike is that you can strap spare fuel cans and a tool box on the other side giving you more room in the car. Andy

  3. lots of Two bike trailers actually have three tracks fairly close together, the two outside tracks for towing two bikes and the middle track for when towing a single bike.

  4. Yep, I have an old Dave Cooper trailers one that's exactly like this. looks like he's still making something similar too..

It tows great with 1 bike on board, I have towed with two heavy sports bikes, but it's not as secure as the straps don't have as much of an angle on them, so need to be *really* tight... Probably better with two lightweight offroaders tho. Top tip: If you're strapping down offroaders, get some 'fork savers' to fit between the wheel and the mudguard. Saves the fork seals and stops them bouncing around so much. toptip #2, pump the front tyre up when you do this, as offroad pressures don't offer much resistance when you're strapping the bike down!
