Hi all, Thought I would start a thread on my 1098 project, as I picked up the below bike in full road spec last weekend and have been busy stripping it down since. The bike is now fairingless and looking a bit sad for itself. Payday yesterday so I've ordered a fairing kit, photos to follow. I've removed the 57mm Termi cans and they will be heading to ebay shortly. No issues with noise testing (100-102db on my meter) I just need to free up some cash to get the bike into track trim :frown: No doubt be buying a set back again come summer! Stomp grip on order, I wont ride any bike on track without it
Where are you going to race it? What class etc? I've been doing some investigation over here in Aus and I found this beastie here Mmmmmm
Sell your granny before the termignoni cans and put the money she raises towards the rest of a full system to hook them up to, or you'll regret it!
I know, I know.... Somewhere I am picking up some very bad karma for removing termi's from a Ducati. Unfortunately, cash flow means they must go. The funds get me on track in very basic form so I can try and get the suspension dialled in and see where the next lot of cash needs to spent in a few months time. They are just end cans on the standard system and will hopefully be replaced at some point with an even angrier sounding 70mm full system. TP - plan is to just get to grips with the bike this year on trackdays, when the racing kicks in it will be probably the hottrax endurance rounds or track/race trips with the likes of racedays.
Im guessing by the picture you bought it from Ducati Manchester? so you cant be too far from Kais at Atherton those guys will do a set up for £50 or try Colin at 100% suspension he usualy found whoring around his skills on a trackday somewhere so no need to spend a forture. Infact as you just want to get on track in the most basic form just stick the fairings on and away you go
Thanks for suggestion but already have a plan for the suspension. Rear shock is going to need some fettling as its way out from where I need it to be with rider sag. Will update the thread when the fairings arrive and I'm out on track. Termis photo whoring - anyone interested let me know asap as I'm throwing them on ebay
Right mini update, Termi's have gone on ebay (I know, I know!) But the cash has allowed me to sort some of the following bits After toying around with chinese road bodywork I ordered a set of track fairings from Ricambi Weiss on the advice of a mate who races in the 848 series. Have to say for the cash I was expecting to have to get my box of fibreglassing and sanding stuff out but when I opened the rather large box that arrived at my work after 3 days from Germany I was pleasantly suprised. I did in my lack of haste forget to order the bloody fasteners aswell, so got them on order now. Pic of fairings to follow Generally speaking, and will have a proper look toight when I lay down the first coat of primer, they are very decent for the money. Have only really used BB plastics in the past who make top notch thick woven ones, and these arnt as thick but they are better than I expected. Have been reinforced with kevlar on the drill points for fasteners too. Colour scheme This has caused me no end of grief, you would think with a complete lack of sponsers I would be able to come up with something. Thats the problem, almost too many options. I love the 1098r look with simple red farings and white number boards but think thats a bit too plain for a trackbike. Was thinking some red white green colour scheme but still undecided. Have to grab some time to have a look on Google for inspiration. Rear Shock (pic to follow) Spring rate was fine in the showa, but a TTX ohlins came up at a price I couldnt refuse. Was going down the route of the non ttx ohlins but then this came up. Will be my only bit of bling as I'm trying to be sensible! Forks Again stock spring rates fine, will just be going for a revalve (k-tech/ ohlins/ maxton) to get a bit better adjustability. Strip down I now have the bike in an alarming state of undress, really need to get the fairings on to pretty her up. Keep toying around with the idea of selling the full road bodykit with light mirrors etc but cant make my mind up. Cashflow will probably make that decision for me! Shakedown Waiting on a new spring to turn up for the shock then I will be out on track to get a feel for the bike, itching to get out on track and blow off the cobwebs. Will edit with the photos tonight, having camera issues today!
Hi there, I am currently fixing my 1098 up after a head on meeting with a ford focus late last year (his fault not mine!!) I toyed with the idea of turning the 1098 into a track bike so will read this thread with interest. Keep updating on the parts you are getting rid of I may be looking for some!! Shame the termi's have gone all ready!
Body work to change is a nightmare! Not only all TS fasteners, and some hidden away, but it's time consuming and diddly. Not at all le the 9** series which were 5 min jobs even if it had screws and not dzus
Hi all, now back and have been painting the fairings, will get some photos up tonight. Anyone up for a trackday at oulton?
Hi all, Sorry for the complete lack of updates with this. Im out at Oulton shortly and will update the thread with photos etc.
my old 1098 is now racing on the roads, was at cookstown, tandragee, and was ment to be at nw200.pretty standard base model with track bodywork.
