Hi All, need some advice. After a long (ish) thinking process, I decided that I wanted my first Ducati to be a Pamigale 1299s. After good search, I found one in a dealer local to me that was very well priced compared to the other models around. I went t see it yesterday and found it to be in very good but not immaculate condition. It had a small but deep scratch on the tail which the dealer said they will get removed and sent to the paintshop to get sorted. It had a very small scratch on the tank which will t-cut off. The front fairings, looked to be very slightly misaligned. Not enough to cause any major alarms but a small niggely feeling in the back of my mind on whether the fairings were replaced at some point. It just seemed to be a not so perfect fit. Coupled with the fact that the previous owner was Ducati themselves, and the tyres on there were brand new, im a little concerned that the bike may have been used as some sort of track day review bike. The salesman was a top guy and said if im not 100% happy, he will give me back my deposit but I got a good deal on the bike and I don't want to miss out on this just because im being stupid. On the other hand, its still £16k and I don't want to spend that amount on something im not going to be happy with. I know its a big ask without any of you actually seeing the bike, but, well.... am I being stupid?
If it has the carbon R&G tank protectors on it, then its almost certainly an ex-CSS bike though i thought most of their bikes were standard bikes and not the S. Otherwise its likely to be a Press bike i would think.
Depends if you are happy with it. If these things are always going to niggle you, then find another. If they can be sorted and you'll be happy, buy it.
how much cheaper than a "legit " bike is it? If you ever have doubts its best to walk away. buy cheap buy twice and all that
I think im going to take another look at it with my wife. I think its fine but it will be nice to see it all clean and polished. It was outside and it rained previously so was not the cleanest. Also had some swirl marks on the paintwork but even the brand new ones had those so im assuming its a Ducati 'feature'.
d8mok, not 'MUCH' cheaper. Final price with tail tidy installed was £16400. The bike sounded perfect and everything else looked perfect on it.
The only UK magazine to have a long term press bikes was Performance Bikes i think and they sent their bike back about a month ago so could well be that one. I'll see if the reg number is visible in any articles. edit: I think MCN had one too.
duke63 would you please let me know the issu it was in and ill also try and source it somewhere? thanks.
Thanks to Duke63 who discovered the bike is in fact this one: Ducati 1299 Panigale S | MCN So apart from the odd day at the track and riding in the rain, is there anything there that would put any of you off?
and whats a grand as a percentage? I would miss the 16k deal. A pami should be immaculate, unless its a bargain, or a tracker. imo
At least you know the history of it. How many people can buy a 2nd hand bike and get a full report from the previous owner. If the dealer can sort the little bodywork niggles, then it wouldn't put me off.
Talking purely from a car point of view i wouldnt touch a ex-press car. Every couple of months we go to Donnington to drive the new cars. They get a very hard time. Then the press get the same cars. They hammer them too. Then they get sold as 1 owner "ex managment" cars from the manufactuer. Ex demo isnt so much of a problem to me.
